Will Trent comes back with a bang indeed.
The first episode of Will Trent’s third season opened with two off-duty police officers being shot at Captain’s Grill, and that shooting impacted nearly every main character’s storyline.
Will has been gone for six months and Faith has been promoted. Naturally, Amanda brings Faith and Ormwood together to solve the case. The two became close friends and were fun to watch.
However, Faith’s job is difficult due to rumors that one of the police officers, Chester Flynn, was attacked by a gang.
His captain wanted to find the gunner immediately, while Faith wanted to start against Piedmont Kings leader Raphael Wexford.
Faith plays Law & Order SVU’s Olivia Benson, who wanders into Wexford’s home and throws a rock through his window to get his attention. This is her chance to shine; Iantha Richardson plays a beautiful role.
Since Faith rarely gets the chance to be the boss, she understandably becomes impatient when Raphael Wexford insists on talking only to Will.
Will Trent ran away from home to escape his life, only to reluctantly return
The past few months have taken their toll on Will, causing him and Betty to hide out in Tennessee. There he works as a private investigator but avoids most of the neighbors to avoid being implicated and harmed.
Will is surrounded by women, and when you lose touch with women, they often feel betrayed. While Amanda tried to handle it for the best, she even threw a few things at him because she missed him, and Will acted indifferent to seeing her.
What? Do you think you can hide forever? I know your every move. It’s time to go home.
— Amanda
Amanda always gives tough love. She tries to be compassionate, knowing how much Will has gone to to report Angie, but she insists they need him at home to work on the case.
It was not until she mentioned Raphael Wexford’s name that she reluctantly responded. Will agrees to come back to help Amanda, but doesn’t commit to a timetable.
Will burned a lot of bridges during his absence. Faith moved into his old office and hired a new GBI agent (played by Douglas Smith). Will is treated like a Grunt and has only one table.
Faith reacted the same way Amanda did and threw something at Will. Faith had been encouraging Will to confide in her, so naturally, she was hurt that he left without telling her.
What breaks her heart even more is that he’s only back because of his connection to Raphael Wexford, another thing he doesn’t tell her.
Will and Raphael Wexford share a fascinating past that no one understands
Of course, Will knew Raphael Wexford from his foster home. Most of his friends were from that period.
However, that fight was priceless. This seems to be something brothers would rather do than sworn enemies. Although it was a violent fight, they taunted each other with personal sarcasm known only to close friends.
Ramon Rodriguez directed the first episode of Will Trent’s third season, and the fight showcased both humor and violence. This is one of the best parts as the audience evaluates how dirty these people are with each other.
Before things escalate, Rafael’s grandmother comes in, with whom viewers learned years ago that Will and Rafael live together. We don’t know why yet, but Will feels indebted to them.
Although he knows that Rafael is not perfect, he trusts that Rafael will not kill the police officer, so he is determined to prove his innocence and prove that a rival gang is responsible.
Faith and Michael form an interesting partnership
Although Agent Gross (Douglas Smith) worked for the GBI, Faith teamed up with Michael Ormwood to keep Agent Gross with Will.
Faith and Michael look so natural together that it makes me wonder how many times they’ve worked together over the past few months.
They looked relaxed, and Michael revealed he was very worried about the police shooting and the case that would give Gina a chance to win custody of the kids.
Michael knows Faith only cares about the case, so he brings her a snack and insists she eat it before confronting the suspect.
The loss of his wife softened Michael’s heart. He has become a better father and a better partner. While I ultimately hope he and Angie work together again, I’m also excited to see him and Faith work together.
Faith kept her cool as she sauntered into Lincoln Sterling’s office. She had a history with him, so she chatted with him when he insisted Raphael Wexford was lying.
If Lincoln Sterling thought he could hit Faith because she hit him with a golf club, he was playing his cards wrong. Don’t mess with her.
Michael also found several stolen Ziviban cars that matched the getaway car. The two thought things were leading to the Grove Park boys, but Chester Flynn’s wife suddenly became suspicious because he had left money to several other women.
How did Chester get involved?
Will Angie trust her instincts again?
The Season 3 premiere didn’t focus much on Angie, but we saw her gain the favor of a security guard at a posh estate community.
This episode shows that Franklin and Michael are rooting for her and worried about how she’ll handle Will’s return.
Frankin tried this loving and supportive approach while Michael filled Angie with intel about Chester. The problem is, while she doesn’t think Chester would cheat on his wife, Angie no longer trusts her instincts.
After Will turns her in and leaves her without her family, she begins to question everything. She knew she could easily escape without going to jail, and Michael agreed.
I have always enjoyed their friendship. They support each other in everything. I would like them to stay close and be platonic friends and partners, but I wouldn’t be opposed to anything more than that.
Marion Alba holds key clue in Chester Flynn case
Will and Marion’s first meeting is interesting. As Gina Rodriguez teased, Marion Alba didn’t know Will was dyslexic and said some of the wrong things.
As the new ADA, she doesn’t want to reveal any information that Chester Flynn shared with her, but she becomes interested in Will when he inadvertently shares his life story with her.
Will often lives in black and white, so Marion seems obsessed that he would arrest the love of his life. She told him that Chester wasn’t revealing much, but that she suspected one of the cops was dirty and that she was involved in a case against another gang, the Grove Park Boys.
Raphael Wexford admitted this during their exchange of ideas, thus causing problems with the plan. The department wanted the case closed, but Will was convinced his friend wouldn’t plead guilty unless forced.
Unfortunately, he was right and they found a photo of Rafael’s daughter with duct tape over her mouth. No wonder he admitted it. Police are hunting for evidence that corrupt police officers were trying to frame a gang leader. It looks like Will may be back for good.
The Season 3 premiere of Will Trent took us on a roller coaster ride. We’re excited to learn more about Will’s relationship with Raphael Wexford and why he feels indebted to his old friend.
Digging into Will’s past always brings complications, but we love these character arcs.
