Will Trent excelled at combining fast-paced action and suspense in the two-season premiere.
In Will Trent Season 3 Episode 2, the GBI and Marion Alba race against time to rescue Sonny.
They are horrified to discover who is behind her kidnapping and murder of Chester.
However, while the GBI worked tirelessly to save Sonny, Angie worked hard to redeem herself and return to the force.
Let’s discuss our favorite agencies in depth.
Faith and Amanda devise a successful plan to find Sonny
“Sunny Side Up,” the first part of the season premiere, keeps the action high-stakes. Faith and Will are horrified to discover that someone would shoot Sonny’s caregiver and take a child away in broad daylight.
Thanks to Sonny, they find her, starting with the video she was filming, Lincoln spelling out in the mirror.
The next clue they find is Sonny’s game charger, but Sonny still has the game. It’s clear that Faith is raising a teenager because she wants Rafael to communicate with his daughter and convey messages to her through the game.
The poor teen didn’t know how to describe anything because she was afraid of getting caught, but when she mentioned the bars on the window, it hit a nerve in Amanda.
Although Amanda suspects law enforcement is involved, she’s convinced when Sonny discovers a hidden phone that’s only used in the safe house.
Amanda was very calm and soothing and assured Sonny that they would help her. This is a side we rarely see, but Amanda never wants her children to be in danger. She also respects fierce women.
detection. Link to stolen car found in Ormwood
As the GBI worked on the kidnapping, Det. Ormwood attempted to connect the stolen car to Chester’s murder.
He worked very efficiently with the team and I will miss his friendship. He knew how to get the DMV woman to talk. Michael, being a bit of a jerk himself, warns her that everyone involved in stealing the IDs has been murdered.
He doesn’t mess around and she folds like a bad hand, telling him she usually meets a guy named Mike in the park.
Of course, Mike isn’t the ringleader, nor is he the fish they want to fry, so they need to pull him up in order to catch the ringleader.
Faith takes great pleasure in arresting the monster before they can interrogate him.
The culprits are predictable, but they fight harder
I suspect Mayor Anthony and Captain Cromwell were involved because they were too eager to close the case and frame Raphael Wexford.
When Marion Alba reopens the case, the mayor actually threatens her, while Captain Cromwell plays “good cop” and helps.
Amanda suspects law enforcement misconduct once someone has the guts to murder Lincoln Spelling, but she also watches who raises those suspicions.
These are just guesses until Marion and Will question Mike, the suspect who bought the fake ID. Mike is defiant like many of the other suspects, and Marianne insists that the gun has his fingerprints on it.
Marian and Will performed well in the competition. They acted the way Marion did, reading the scene and acting nonchalantly, talking about Betty while alluding to Lincoln’s murder and imprisonment.
When Mike discovers that the leader is a white man with a shaved head, it’s enough to scare him. Will, like Amanda, realizes at the same time that Captain Cromwell is in charge.
He is too violent. What hostility does he have towards those lively women? Sunny is the MVP of this episode. She might have froze in fear, but she listened, noticed the tonneau release had fallen out, and ran to a nearby shopping mall.
The mall chase is the best scene. This is a crime procedural, so we assume the good guys will win, but it’s still hard to see Captain Cromwell attack Sonny and Faith.
Just then, Will Trent came back. He wouldn’t let anyone hurt his partner, but then he almost died and Faith returned the favor.
The two still had a lot of work to do, but they finally spoke. Will never confided in Faith, which hurt her even more. Given time, they will get closer again.
At least Will knows where he belongs and won’t let anyone, not even the mayor, stop him.
Where’s the evidence, Trent? Or do you want people to believe that a disgraced GBI agent ditched his partner and turned in his girlfriend?
—Mayor Armstrong
Although Scout. Ormwood had wanted Captain Crowell to be sentenced to death. Someone murdered him before that happened. Even if Raphael and his gang were behind this, it would be hard to feel bad about his death. Crowell tortured his daughter.
Angie asks to return to police force
Angie struggled with the need to show remorse in front of the disciplinary committee, while part of her still believed she had done the right thing.
It’s interesting to read parts of her apology online. She wants to remember Crystal, but she needs to get back to work. Angie doesn’t do well in her spare time.
She has begun to doubt her instincts and her position in life. Angie Polaski is a survivor.
Ideally, we should have seen her struggle through her arrest and sentencing, but I appreciate her working hard to get back on the force.
While I miss her interactions with other people, it’s not always easy. Erika Christensen is talented enough to deliver an emotionally layered performance, so I’m excited to see what happens next.
Who is Sunny’s best guardian?
Poor Sonny. Her guardian is murdered and her father returns to lead the Piedmont Kings. She lacks stability, which is tough for a young girl.
I think Sonny would have developed better if he had faith or will. Faith is a damsel in distress herself, while Will is confused about being in the system.
While Amanda and Sonny hit it off at first and are both fierce women, Amanda seems to be very particular about routine. She tried to relax once Sonny arrived, but Sonny looked uncomfortable.
Hopefully, once they get used to it, they’ll be able to cooperate better. Amanda has a big heart and clearly wants to help.
She had always longed to be a mother so she could raise a child. Hopefully we’ll see some of their interactions as they grow closer.
We love this ending, with Will finding his mojo again and returning to where he belongs. The ending was left ambiguous so that Raphael Wexford could return to visit his daughter and mess with Will’s head further.
His new relationship with Rafael is similar to his old relationship with Paul Campano from Will Trent Season 1. Attack, but also help each other.
We missed this.
Over to you, Will Trent fanatic. What do you think of Will and Raphael’s friendship? Do you think Angie will rejoin the police force?
