The end is near for Joe Goldberg, and it’s time.
He’s the serial killer we’ve loathed but admired for years, but his time is coming to an end.
Netflix confirmed Thursday that YOU season 5 will begin streaming later this year.
More specifically, April 24th is a big day, and the announcement seems to have some good news:
No mention of split seasons. This strategy didn’t work well in You Season 4, so we’re excited to see the backside of it.
We’re also glad Joe’s reign of terror is coming to an end soon.
YOU Season 5 has a tough job
The play is a textbook example of a show losing its luster after a mesmerizing freshman season.
That said, You season 4 changes up the narrative, taking Joe to London where he becomes entangled in a sinister new mystery.
The biggest surprise is that we’re back where it all began, with Joe back in New York seemingly being punished for his crimes.
He slips through the cracks every time, which ruins the series in some ways, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does it again in the final episodes.
“We’re back together, back where we started,” Joe says in voiceover in the first trailer for You season 5.
“A lot has happened over the years together—identities, cities, love, complications—but all of it has led me here, to now, to where I’ve always wanted to be.
“For me, the only thing that is constant and always exists is you. You are always there and will be with me until the end. Goodbye, you.
‘You’ Season 5 Should End With Joe’s Death
As charming as Penn Badgley is in the role, Joe has proven to be a red flag, so there’s no way we’ll be fooled by him anymore.
Joe spent a lot of time in You season 4 romantically involved with Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), and somehow she wasn’t surprised by his homicidal tendencies and was determined to keep their relationship going. It’s a tough left turn, but we’re excited to see what happens next.
“Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after…until his perfect life is threatened by ghosts from his past and his own dark desires,” teases the brief but informative synopsis.
Kate and Geneville Baker (Elizabeth Lair), Love Queen (Victoria Pedretti), Marianne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle), Ben Gee (Lou Telepucci), Cary (Travis Van Winkle), Shirley Conrad (Sharita Grant) appear in the trailer alongside Delilah Alves (Carmela ·Zubado).
New cast members for YOU Season 5 include Madeleine Brewer, Anna Camp and Griffin Matthews.
It’s a talented cast, but we’re adjusting our expectations because the only way this show can end gracefully is if Joe dies tragically after being dragged through the mud for his crimes.
We doubt the show will go this route, as Netflix may want to reboot. After all, no show can ever truly end these days.
