The day we have all feared since Bill Hayes died is coming.
This week Hayes’ alter ego Doug Williams will die in his sleep.
To make matters worse, Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 11/25/24 say he will leave this world in the Thanksgiving episode, making it hard to get excited about the holiday show.
Doug’s death hit me hard…and it wasn’t the only one
Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 11/25/24 are doubly heartbreaking, as Doug passes away on Thursday (Thanksgiving) and Marlena shares news about John on Friday.
As we know, it was also the beginning of the end for him, as Drake Hogestyn passed away in September.
Normally, John would have taken another year or so to be written, but because Hogestyn’s cancer was so severe that he’d been sick for nine months and unable to work, executive producer Ken Cody did The heartbreaking decision was made to write John’s death before the actor passed.
This means Hogestyn was able to contribute to how he died on television.
It’s heartbreaking that Days of Our Lives was able to give him that and respect him so much that the producers were willing to do it.
Still, it was frustrating and brutal for viewers to suffer these two huge losses back-to-back. It would be at least a few months before John’s death was officially announced, but still.
Doug’s send-off of No Choice was wonderful, but I hated that it happened on Thanksgiving as much as I hated that it happened.
John Aniston passed away on Veterans Day 2022, so November is already a sad month for longtime Days of Our Lives fans.
Doug’s death will be even harder to bear.
Bill Seaforth Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes were one of the first real-life soap opera couples to fall in love, creating the soap opera in the 1970s history. They’ve been a fixture on Days of Our Lives for more than half a century and have been married in real life for longer than I’ve been alive.
The only soap opera death that rocked my world so much was Macdonald Carey’s death in 1994 and Tom Horton’s death. and Alice.
They also remind me of my real grandparents, who are long gone, so losing Doug is like losing another grandparent.
The good news is that the whole week won’t be frustrating. Kiriakis Thanksgiving starts on Tuesday, so at least we get some celebration before the saddest Thanksgiving ever.
I don’t understand why they couldn’t air Doug’s death the day after Thanksgiving so we could at least have a happy holiday but at least the family would be together.
Doug’s death will bring huge rewards
I’m not sure when Julie’s extended family will return to Salem, but Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 11/25/24 promise that Jack and Jennifer will make an appearance.
I love Cady McClain, but I’m glad Melissa Reeves is back this time.
She created this character so she was supposed to be there for Julie after Doug died and hold on to her husband and her remaining children.
Melissa Reeves probably also has a lot of memories of Bill Hayes, which makes her the right person to play Jennifer’s reaction to his death.
She told some stories about him when he first died, so most of Jennifer’s grief here is likely the actress’ genuine grief combined with the demands of the script.
Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 11/25/24 promise it won’t be all downer
While the world’s saddest Thanksgiving can overshadow the holiday itself, there’s a lot else going on in Salem.
There are more consequences to the body and soul bullshit, especially Johnny’s one-night stand with Joey.
I know cheating stories are a staple of soap operas, but why do we need to do this with Johnny and Chanel?
After the devil caused Johnny to break up with Chanel, it took the couple a year to get back together. (I’m glad silly stories like this are going away!)
They go through Chanel’s inability to choose between Johnny and Ally and Wendy’s inability to choose between Johnny and Tripp.
They slowly make their way back to each other, while Chanel debates whether she’s willing to risk Johnny’s heart breaking again.
So couldn’t they have another story other than their marriage broke up for no reason?
It doesn’t help that Joey is so likable.
She’s a conventional character who deserves a better story than this trope-laden tale in which she becomes best friends with the woman her husband secretly slept with.
Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 11/25/24 Sarah finally comes home
Sarah going from being completely paralyzed to being able to walk with a cane and brace is silly, but we’ll live with it.
In real life, when feeling returned to her legs, she couldn’t even dream of walking again and she needed physical therapy, but in real life, there wasn’t a magic serum that could repair spinal cord damage and reverse paralysis.
What matters is that Sarah has been discharged and is home. This would give her and Xander a chance to be alone.
I’m not sure what else happens with their story. Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 11/25/24 don’t offer many clues.
I’m so glad Sarah was there when the news of Doug’s passing broke. Julie needs all the support she can get.
There’s also some movement on Rafe’s side, with Jada caught between Rafe’s plans and Paulina’s demands.
I wish Jada would rehire JJ as a police officer since she is understaffed and Jada has great detective skills.
