Despite starring in both The Babysitter, and its sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Emily Alyn Lind’s presence is somewhat forgotten. Not because she isn’t any good, but rather that the film also stars Samara Weaving as the titular babysitter and her star power shines so bright it is easy to forget the rest of the cast. For those unfamiliar with the Netflix duet of movies, The Babysittermovies are bubble-gum horror comedies that see young boy Cole, and his babysitter, Bee, face down with occultists.
Lind stars as Melanie, the best friend of lead character Cole. In the first film she is firmly kept in sidekick territory, but by film two, she takes on a much more central and dastardly role. Across the two movies Lind gets to demonstrate both her soft and cute side, as well as her more empowered and evil side.
Having flown under the radar in The Babysitter, Emily Alyn Lind first began to capture audiences attention as Snakebite Andi in Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep. The teenage character doesn’t have a whole lot of screentime, but what she does have Lind uses to maximise Andi’s impact. A girl who survived by enticing and killing men to rob from, Andi captures the attention of Rose the Hat, who anoints her as the newest member of The True Knot. Her most awful deed comes when she uses her psychic powers to lure Jacob Tremblay’s baseball player into Rose’s van.
Doctor Sleepis the long gestating sequel to The Shining, picking up the story with the formerly young Danny Torrence, now fully grown. Although he tries not to use his shining powers, after he is contacted by a young girl called Abra, who is equally gifted, Danny finds himself going to great lengths to help Abra take down Rose the Hat and her cult.

After six seasons, the original Gossip Girl came to an end in 2012. Then almost ten years later, in 2021, HBO saw the potential for a new series. Rather than go the reunion route and follow the adult lives of Blair and Serena, the new Gossip Girl focused on a whole new raft of teens, with Emily Alyn Lind present as Audrey Hope.
Audrey was the reboot’s spiritual Blair Waldorf with her love of all things classic and a perfectionist nature. She even had a fractious relationship with her mother who, coincidentally, was also a fashion designer. Audrey however, didn’t have quite the same killer instinct as Blair and whereas Blair had to choose between childhood sweetheart Nate and bad boy Chuck, Audrey got to keep both Aki and Max as they became a throuple. Their relationship was a high point of the show and demonstrated a more progressive way of thinking than the one before.

The main plot of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees an ancient evil unleashed that is intent on bringing on a second ice age. Lind joins the Ghostbusterssequel as Melody. a New York ghost who befriends teen Ghostbuster Phoebe Spengler. Scenes between Phoebe, played by McKenna Grace and Melody are some of the more touching in the film, and the young stars work wonderfully together.
Although very much a supporting role, Melody does have a pivotal part to play during the movie’s climax, but Ghostbusters: Frozen Empireis more concerned with bringing back the original gang to have them fight side by side with the new generation of Ghostbusters.

Having been a supporting player in many ensemble projects, We Were Liars finds Emily Alyn Lind at the centre of the drama. Based on the book series by E. Lockhart, the first season of We Were Lairsjoins Lind’s Cady as she returns to her affluent family’s private holiday island a couple of years after a tragedy befell the family. Suffering with amnesia since the accident, Cady hopes that returning to the island will unlock the secrets in her head. The result is a gripping sun-kissed thriller that has a kicker of a resolution.
Those that got hooked on We Were Liars don’t have long to wait as a second season, based on Lockhart’s second book, is in production. Lind will once more be back as Cady, though the attention is set to shift back in time as it unpicks events from the teenage summer of Cady’s mother and aunts.
Of everything sitting on Emily Alyn Lind’s upcoming IMDB section, The Adventures of Cliff Booth is the most high-profile. Directed by David Fincher, the film is a surprise sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The story will follow Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth as he embarks on a new career of being a Hollywood fixer. Details of Lind’s role have yet to be revealed, but the project will see her rubbing shoulders with Brad Pitt, Timothy Olyphant, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, and a whole host of Hollywood greats.

In addition to a second season of We Were Liars, Emily Alyn Lind has three new productions in motion. The first is an indie drama from first-time feature director, Tyler-Marie Evans.
Pretty Babies will see her star alongside Madelaine Petsch and Ashley Benson as a teenage girl who runs away to Hollywood with dreams of becoming a star. The IMDB synopsis reveals that their journey is far from easy as the pursuit leads them into prostitution, trapping them in the dark underbelly of the sex work industry as they try to make it to California.

Another forthcoming title is David Mamet’s Speed the Plow. Featuring Sharon Stone, Anthony Mackie, and Ben Mendelsohn, Speed the Plow’s official synopsis teases “a film producer and his associate plan to pitch a project to a studio with a big time movie star attached until they’re side-tracked by the producer’s attractive secretary.”
Billed on IMDB as a comedy drama, Speed the Plowsounds like it’ll be a lighter watch than Pretty Babies.
