The Osmo Pocket 4P sounds a powerful tool for vloggers and content creators

DJI has announced the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P, the company’s first dual-lens gimbal camera. It’s exciting news for vloggers and content creators, and sounds a great accessory for the summer.

The headline feature is a new 1-inch CMOS sensor which offers up to 17 stops of dynamic range, plus a 60mm lens with a fast f/1.8 aperture. DJI is also debuting the new 10-bit D-Log 21 colour profile, capable of capturing over one billion colours.

Read Angela Nicholson’s full review and check out editor Nigel Atherton’s comparison of the Osmo Pocket 4P with the Osmo Pocket 4. Which one should you buy, he asks…

    • DJI Osmo Pocket 4P review – the ultimate vlogging camera is now twice as powerful
    • DJI Osmo Pocket 4P vs 4 – Which one should you buy?

    Two lenses for extra versatility

The Osmo Pocket 4P’s primary wide-angle lens is equipped with the new 1-inch CMOS sensor (20mm format equivalent and f/2.0 aperture). As well as the dynamic range benefits, it supports up to 4K/240 fps video recording

‘More typically found in high-end cinema cameras, these professional filmmaking capabilities can effortlessly handle high-contrast scenes like city nightscapes, sunsets, and backlit portraits,’ said DJI.

The second lens is a large-aperture 60mm tele lens, supporting 3× optical zoom. The f/1.8 aperture should come in handy for differential focus effects, making the subject sharply stand out against a defocussed background.

    Capturing the action

For high-speed action, the Osmo Pocket 4P can capture up to 8x ultra-HD slow motion footage at 4K/240 fps, facilitating cool effects such as spinning subjects, flowing hair, or falling snow.

Alternatively, the Slow Shutter Video can be used to trace flowing light, creating a motion blur or capturing movement trails and the passage of time.

DJI claims the integration of the new 10-bit D-Log 21 colour profile, paired with 17 stops of dynamic range, preserves ‘unparalleled highlight and shadow details – on par with premium cinema cameras.’

With a 10-bit colour depth capturing over one billion colors, tonal transitions stay exceptionally smooth, it added.

Staying stable and other cool features

Housed within a compact 230g body, the Osmo Pocket 4P’s 3-axis mechanical gimbal ensures stability and smooth video footage. DJI claims the upgraded ActiveTrack 8.01 keeps subjects (whether people, vehicles, pets or dynamically shaped objects) centred in the frame, even at 12x zoom.

Other cool usability features include the ability to rotate the touchscreen to power-on and start recording, enhanced gesture controls, and capturing motion by automatically recording 1.5-second clips for every photo in 4K detail.

For stills photography, the Osmo Pocket 4P can also record 37MP images. It’s a well connected device too, supporting wireless transfer speeds up to 800MB per second

A wide range of accessories are also supported, including the Osmo Pocket 4 Fill Light, Osmo Pocket 4P Black Mist Filter, Osmo Pocket 4P ND Filters Set,, and various OsmoAudio microphones (each sold separately or included in selected combos).

    Pricing and availability

The Osmo Pocket 4P is available from today from store.dj.com in the following configurations.

    • The Osmo Pocket 4P Standard Combo retails for £529
    • The Osmo Pocket 4P Vlog Combo retails for £605
