JJ starts kindergarten, loses his bear and lands in a kingdom where singing is outlawed – Moonbug Entertainment’s nursery-rhyme juggernaut heads to theaters February 19, 2027, with DNEG Group handling animation and DreamWorks Animation producing.
Universal Pictures has released the teaser trailer for CoComelon: The Movie, the long-awaited first theatrical feature from the hugely popular nursery-rhyme YouTube series, arriving February 19, 2027.
CoComelon has made the leap from YouTube animated series to a 3DCG film, with animation by the DNEG Group, a leading animation and visual effects studio. Moonbug Entertainment, Flywheel Media, Prime Focus Studios and DreamWorks Animation produce, with Universal distributing. Kat Good directs; she has directed on Monsters at Work and worked as a story artist on Kung Fu Panda, Megamind and Penguins of Madagascar.
In the film, on his first day of kindergarten, JJ (Connor Esterson, Spy Kids: Armageddon) discovers that his stuffed bear Boba has gone missing. The quest that follows transports JJ and his friends Cody, CeCe and Nina into a magical land ruled by Princess Harmony, whose realm has one rule: no singing.
SZA plays Princess Harmony, Nicholas Hoult voices Boba and Ike Barinholtz plays Harmony’s right-hand enforcer, Chicken Peels. The supporting cast includes Sarah Sherman and Ego Nwodim of Saturday Night Live, Josh Johnson of The Daily Show, Rhys Darby of Flight of the Conchords, Matthew Friend of Family Guy and Cristo Fernández of Ted Lasso.
Justin Tranter, whose credits include work for Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande and Chappell Roan, is executive music producer on the film’s 10 new songs.
Across 20-plus languages and 80-plus countries, CoComelon averages more than four billion monthly views on YouTube. The franchise now spans JJ’s Animal Time, CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends, Netflix’s CoComelon Lane, the live-action The Melon Patch, recorded music, publishing and consumer products. AWN reported the greenlight in May 2025, nearly 15 months before today’s teaser.
