Irish composer and sound designer lands one of 11 spots on the worldwide shortlist for his work on ‘For the Life You’re After’ for AIB
Irish composer and sound designer denis. (Denis Kilty) has secured a highly coveted shortlist for Excellence in the Craft of Sound Design for his work on ‘For the Life You’re After’ for AIB.
Directed by Nono Ayuso, the film features a rich, dense tapestry of sound, capturing the essence of ‘future memories’, as the lead character reaches for the life they could have – in the form of a speeding train.
Built around the concept of a spinning zoetrope, the soundscape moves rapidly between the future and the present, creating a fast-paced story that puts you right inside these fleeting moments.
“I sound-designed the audio to sync with the relentless rhythm of both the trains and the score – I wanted to capitalise on the rhythmic elements in the picture to push the story forward in a way that felt natural and cerebral at the same time. What does a memory sound like? This was a central question I kept at the forefront of my mind while working on it. Ultimately, we ended up with a rewarding audiovisual experience that I am very proud of.”
For The Life You’re After was produced for AIB by TBWAIreland and Antidote Films.
