Georgetown Film FestivalBrings Independent Stories From Texas and Around the World to the Big Screen
Independent filmmakers are taking center stage in Georgetown this fall. The 2026 Georgetown Film Festivalreturns Sept. 26 with international, domestic and student films—including a documentary that follows one musician’s pursuit of the American dream from Spain to Texas.

Independent Film Takes Over Georgetown
The Georgetown Film Festival continues to grow, bringing filmmakers and movie lovers together around the city’s historic square.
“Georgetown Film Festival is happening on September 26th in beautiful Georgetown, Texas, on the square,” Perez said. “We have some international films, we have some domestic films, student films. We have all kinds for everybody.”
Perez said the festival was created in part to give independent filmmakers another platform to put their work in front of an audience while building a film community in rapidly growing Georgetown.
This year’s selections stretch well beyond Central Texas, with films from countries including Turkey, Croatia and Iran.
“We want to give the opportunity for these indie filmmakers a platform,” Perez said. “We want to give them a chance to show these films.”
One Musician’s Journey From Spain to America
Among this year’s selections is Partida’s documentary “I Took the Road Less Traveled,” which was filmed across Spain, Mexico and the United States.
The film chronicles musician Diego “Bull” Boulevard’s journey from growing up in Spain listening to American rock ‘n’ roll from the 1950s and ’60s to pursuing his own dream of playing the music in the United States.
“It’s a very honest movie about who he was, who he is, and his perseverance,” Partida said, “and how he’s continuing to chase the American dream day after day to play American rock ‘n’ roll.”
Traveling internationally to tell the story also allowed Partida to explore what Bull left behind while pursuing that dream.
“What’s more important is everything and all the people that he left behind that are there, very much care about him and that he cares about, to chase his dream in America,” Partida said.

A Story About Continuing to Chase a Dream
Partida hopes audiences will see pieces of their own ambitions in Bull’s story—even if those dreams have nothing to do with music.
“I’d like people to kind of walk away from the film saying, ‘Bull very much inspired me to continue to do what I am pursuing,’” Partida said.
The documentary doesn’t focus solely on success. It also explores the challenges and perseverance involved in continuing to pursue a goal.
Building Connections Through Film
The festival is supported by a growing group of Georgetown organizations and businesses, including the Georgetown Palace Theatre, along with partnerships with Georgetown Parks and Recreation and the Georgetown Public Library.
For filmmakers, Partida summed up the importance of festivals in just three words: “to make connections.” Perez offered another three: “Opportunity brings success.”
