Story:A local cable operator turns his neighbourhood network into an unlikely investigative tool when an MLA is kidnapped, helping police uncover bizarre clues, hidden motives and unexpected twists.Review:There is a promising idea at the heart of Jumper—a neighbourhood cable operator using his unusual access to help the police crack the kidnapping of an MLA. Saurabh Varma’s 104-minute crime drama attempts to turn an ordinary cable boy into an unlikely investigator, but despite its brisk pace and capable cast, the film never develops its premise into a genuinely gripping thriller. The story follows Johnny Jumper (Tanuj Virwani), a local cable operator whose familiarity with the neighbourhood makes him an asset to Inspector Shanti (Brijendra Kala) and ACP Karma (Zakir Hussain). With the MLA’s kidnapping treated as a matter of urgency, the cops bring Jumper into the investigation, hoping his access to people’s homes and his knowledge of the locality can help uncover clues. What initially appears to be a straightforward case soon takes a few turns, raising questions about who is telling the truth and whether the kidnapping is really what it seems. Varma keeps the film moving at a brisk pace from the opening minutes. However, the speed occasionally works against the narrative. The initial portions unfold so quickly that viewers may struggle to process the sequence of events and understand the investigation before the story moves on to the next development. The second half, meanwhile, falls into repetition, relying on familiar investigative beats even as the pace remains engaging enough to prevent the film from becoming entirely tedious. The bigger problem is that the twists never match the film’s intriguing premise. The central mystery has enough potential to sustain a sharper thriller, but the writing does not explore it with sufficient depth. By the time the climax arrives, its reveal feels fairly predictable rather than genuinely surprising. The screenplay also misses opportunities to give its characters greater dimension or make the investigation feel more consequential. Technically, Jumper is functional but uneven. The shaky camera work and excessive use of close-ups can become distracting, making certain scenes unnecessarily difficult to follow. A more controlled visual approach could have added tension and polish to the otherwise straightforward procedural. Virwani is decent as Johnny, bringing the right mix of street-smart charm and vulnerability to the role. Zakir Hussain and Brijendra Kala are reliable as the investigating officers, lending credibility to their scenes. Khanak Budhiraja seems quite a misfit as the tech-savvy Kashvi, while Vijay Raaz makes a dependable impression despite having limited scope within a fairly conventional script. Overall, Jumper remains a serviceable average watch that benefits from its unusual central character, brisk runtime and competent performances. But its hurried first half, repetitive second half, predictable climax and underwhelming execution prevent it from rising above the familiar territory of a routine digital crime thriller. For seasoned thriller viewers, the film offers too few surprises to leave a lasting impact.
