David Byrne’s forthcoming concert <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/08/28/back-to-film-school-7-ways-to-kick/” title=”Back to Film School: 7 Ways to Kick”>film, directed byThe Brutalist’s Brady Corbet, will focus on the Baltimore portion of hisWho Is the Sky?tour.

The film, shot on 70mm, will highlight Byrne’s May 2026 performances in his hometown. Speaking about the choice of format in a statement, the “This Must Be The Place” singer shared: “When Brady told me he wanted to shoot our show in 70 millimeter (70 millimeter!) I didn’t realize what a difference it would make until I saw some frames he sent me. He was right; it really does capture the widescreen visual scope of the show. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Corbet rose to prominence after directingThe Brutalist, the 2025 film starring Adrien Brody that tracks a Hungarian-Jewish architect’s emigration to America after the Holocaust. The film swept that year’s awards season, taking home the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture and earning Brody an Oscar for his performance.

Notably, it also won the Academy Award for Best Music and Best Cinematography. Corbet was previously known for directing the 2016 musical dramaVox Lux. After working with Byrne, the director will helm the Cate Blanchett-Michael Fassbender horror westernThe Origin of the World.

“I am so grateful to David Byrne and his entire team for entrusting us to capture his hometown show on 8-perf and 15-perf 70mm,” Corbet added in the statement. “The band’s performance is an inclusive celebration of community, and of Baltimore in particular — one of America’s most underappreciated historic cities.”

Byrne has made concert films with other acclaimed directors:Silence of the Lambs’s Jonathan Demme directed 1984’s iconicStop Making Sense, and Spike Lee 2020’sAmerican Utopia, which documented Byrne’s tour for the album.

TheWho Is the Sky?documentary will feature Byrne as well as his 13-person ensemble, and is being produced by Corbet’s Pre-Code and The Deep End Films. “This film will capture one of our greatest artists at the peak of his craft, in a moment that brings people together when we need it most,” The Deep End said in a statement, “and that will elevate the concert film experience to a new level.”

The film is now in postproduction; its distribution details and release date have not yet been announced.
