Surventis Aumovio bridging material science and display integration shows vehicle UX hardware attracting cross-sector collaboration

    • August 28, 2026

Surventis (formerly BASF Coatings) and Aumovio have signed a strategic collaboration agreement to advance microstructured optical films for automotive displays, head-up displays and projection systems. The Surventis Aumovio partnership combines nanoimprint film technology under the Chemetall brand with Aumovio’s automotive display integration capabilities and defined industrialisation milestones.

Surventis uses roll-to-roll nanoimprint technology to replicate optical micro- and nanostructures across large film areas with high precision. These films can improve light distribution, boost readability and add new display functions while keeping unit costs competitive, giving automotive OEMs more design freedom in display and cockpit integration.

Electrification and autonomous mobility are making high-quality displays the key user interface in vehicles, raising demand for advanced optical film components. Aumovio, spun from Continental’s Automotive sector in September 2025, brings display, head-up display and system integration expertise to the collaboration, with agreed development milestones.

Frank Naber, Executive Vice President, Surface Treatment at Surventis, said automotive display applications were a key growth area for its functional films and the Aumovio partnership would bring optical solutions to future vehicle platforms. Ulrich Lueders, Aumovio UX Director, said the collaboration would translate optical concepts into scalable vehicle display solutions.
