Screen profiles all the world and key premieres at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the Galas, Special Presentations, Platform and Midnight Madness strands.

Clockwise from top left: ‘Babies’, ‘Glaxo’, ‘Misty Green’, ‘Paradise Lost’, ‘Tenzing’, ‘On Behalf Of My Son’

Toronto (September 10-20) brings a pivotal edition, with the launch of TIFF: The Market backed by a festival selection high on star quality — and Brits.

Sian Heder’s follow-up to Oscar winner Coda, Being Heumann, will open TIFF, while the gala and special presentation sections contain a multitude of actor-directed features including Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut, Chris Rock’s Misty Green, Tim Blake Nelson’s The Life And Deaths Of Wilson Shedd, Courteney Cox’s Evil Genius and Rebel Wilson’s Girl Group. Margaret Qualley, Naomi Watts, Cynthia Erivo, Helen Mirren, Riz Ahmed and Chase Infiniti are just a few of the names expected on red carpets.

As for the Brits, this year’s TIFF lineup is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to UK filmmakers, from Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care to The Long Winter, Andrew Haigh’s follow-up to All Of Us Strangers, Faith, Paul Andrew Williams’ follow-up to the well-received Dragonfly, and Simon Stone’s Elsinore starring Andrew Scott as Chariots Of Fire lead Ian Charleson in a film that chronicles the last year of his life before he died of Aids.

Screen has the lowdown on all the premieres playing across TIFF’s Galas, Special Presentations, Platform and Midnight Madness strands, and also previews the TIFF Docs, Discovery and Centrepiece sections. We have also marked which titles will world premiere in the Telluride lineup, which was confirmed on September 3.

Click on the links to each section for the profiles. Scroll down for the list of films playing in these sections that premiered at Venice and earlier.
