Chris Rock has opened up about the advice he wished he had received early in his career.
Rock, the writer, director, and star of “Misty Green,” attended the film’s premiere on Sept. 12 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Rock reflected on his career choices when he spoke to People at the People/EW and Studio. The 61-year-old director joined costar Rosalind Eleazar to discuss his latest film
Rock fielded a question about what advice he would have appreciated when he was entering the industry. He said, “I think as an actor, you don’t realize how strategic you should be sometimes. So maybe there might be a project or two that maybe I should have thought over before I said yes to. It’s like, ‘Maybe not right now.’ That would’ve been helpful.”
He added, “I mean, the thing about acting or directing, any of these things, every opportunity you get is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You’re going to get to act again, but you’re not going to get to act in this movie again. I’m going to get to direct again, but I’m not going to get to direct this again. So there’s definitely some things I might have taken a little more serious.”
“Misty Green” features Eleazar as the protagonist. According to the film’s official synopsis, “Years after her Hollywood breakthrough,” she’s back to “[fight] for her second act.”
“The movie’s about Misty, but the movie is also about L.A. in the sense that Chinatown’s about L.A., Magnolia’s about L.A., and honestly in the last 15-20 years, America is L.A. America has this obsession with fame,” Rock told TIFF CEO and moderator Cameron Bailey while discussing the film’s focus.
Rock also directed his daughter Zara in a small role for the film.
“Misty Green” is in theaters Oct. 9.
