Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — “Some movies stay with you long after the credits roll. The Fayetteville Film Fest is built around those kinds of stories,” a recent news release from Experience Fayetteville said, encouraging locals to come out to downtown Fayetteville for an experience that takes you in front of and behind the camera

According to the release, the organization is inviting locals to indulge in local cinema from September 16 through 19 across venues throughout Fayetteville during the 17th annual Fayetteville Film Fest.

Event coordinators said the festival returns to downtown Fayetteville every September, encouraging filmmakers and cinema connoisseurs to come together for four days of independent films, filmmaker conversations and creative collaboration.

“Whether you’re the first one in line for an indie premiere or just enjoy discovering something different, the festival offers a chance to experience films you won’t find at your neighborhood theater,” the release said.

Event coordinators said the <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/09/19/short-film-udeg-for-the-first-time-in-competition-at-the-cannes-film-festival/" title="Short film UdeG for the first time in competition at the Cannes Film Festival”>film festival continues a tradition of celebrating independent filmmakers and gives audiences the opportunity to meet the creators behind the films. Those who are interested in attending can purchase tickets here.

“It’s one of those weekends that reminds you why seeing a movie in a room full of strangers still matters,” the release said.

Did you know Arkansas students can apply to the U of A for free this week?

According to the release, the festival includes screenings of exclusive independent films, ranging from feature-length narratives and documentaries to short films, animation, music videos and student projects that can’t be viewed anywhere else.

During the four-day-festival, visitors can expect panels, workshops and networking events that bring members of the industry together, the release said. Many of the movie screenings will be followed by conversations with the filmmakers, allowing audiences a chance to ask questions and learn how films were created.

But event coordinators said one of the things that makes the Fayetteville Film Fest different from other film festivals is what happens after the lights come back on after the show.

“Even if you’ve never been to a film festival before, you’ll quickly discover it’s less formal than you might expect,” the release said. “Come for one screening or spend the entire weekend, you’ll leave with a few new favorite films and probably a recommendation or two from someone sitting nearby.”
