If you’re heading out to the movies this weekend, make sure you get to your seat before the previews start. The first official <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/09/20/new-trailer-for-zhang-yimous-raise-the-red-lantern-4k-restoration/” title=”New Trailer for Zhang Yimou's 'Raise the Red Lantern' 4K Restoration”>trailer for David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino’s highly anticipated Netflix movie, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, is currently playing exclusively in theaters (following an accidental leak last weekend).
As we approach the holiday season, Netflix is revving up the promotional engine for what is undeniably their biggest original film of 2026. The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood spin-off has been heavily shrouded in secrecy, but fans are finally getting their first real glimpse of Brad Pitt’s return as the iconic stuntman following the teaser that dropped during the Super Bowl at the top of the year.
Currently, the only way to see the trailer in high definition is on the big screen. Netflix has attached the teaser exclusively to screenings of the new Resident Evil movie in cinemas worldwide.
If you don’t feel like buying a movie ticket just to catch a two-minute preview, you won’t have to wait long; we’ve learned the global online debut is on Monday, September 21st. That comes a week after the trailer leaked online, but Netflix quickly swatted down most of what was published online.
Netflix declined to comment on the trailer’s release date or some of the other promotional cadence dates when we reached out.
How do we know it’s in theaters? The cast told us!
Word of the trailer’s theatrical placement actually comes straight from the stars of the movie themselves. Over on Instagram, social media was buzzing with leaked images from the trailer. But a closer look at the accounts sharing the footage reveals a fun connection: they are actors in the film!
Actor Zedrick Restauro posted a photo from inside a movie theater, writing, “If you’re seeing Resident Evil make sure you’re early enough for the trailers to see @jaybeetadena @mattgr00ve in new Cliff Booth trailer.”
Actor Matt Groove (who is part of the movie’s massive ensemble cast) then reshared the post to his own Instagram story, confirming the news alongside fellow cast member JB Tadena. Groove also shared a few blurry, bootlegged snaps of the trailer (thanking user @ohmeigawd for the footage), giving fans a sneak peek at Pitt back in action and a look at Groove and Tadena’s characters cruising in a car.
Others have also seen the new trailer in theaters and posted bootleg copies online.
The hype train doesn’t stop at the trailer. While David Fincher (The Social Network, Mindhunter) is sitting in the director’s chair for the film, Quentin Tarantino is still heavily involved—and he’s expanding the cinematic universe onto the written page.
It was just announced that Tarantino has written a brand new tie-in novel based on the character, set to arrive just before Fincher’s film hits Netflix.
Titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth (which was actually the original working title for the film before it was lengthened), the novel will be published by HarperCollins on December 8th, 2026. According to the publisher, the new book “offers Tarantino’s own creative vision for this story in novel form.”
While plot details for the movie are still being kept tightly under wraps, the novel’s official logline gives us our best hint yet at what Cliff has been up to since the events of 1969: “The Swinging Sixties are long gone — but Clifford Booth keeps on keeping on… War hero, stuntman, bartender, cinema projectionist… with the occasional ‘clandestine services’ for his friends…”
This marks Tarantino’s second foray into prose with this universe, following his fantastic 2021 novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which famously dove deep into Cliff’s incredibly dark past.
When does the movie release?
As a reminder, Netflix is giving the film a massive premium theatrical push before it hits our streaming queues.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will be coming to IMAX theaters globally for an exclusive two-week run starting November 25th, 2026, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Following its IMAX window, the film will make its global streaming debut on Netflix on December 23rd, 2026.
