The Problem in Post-Production Isn’t a Lack of Tools. It’s Too Many.
Ask an editor, colorist or motion designer what is slowing them down, and the answer is unlikely to be a missing feature. AI-assisted tools arrive constantly. Familiar applications change with every release. Deadlines get shorter while the list of skills a post professional is expected to master keeps growing.
“The problem in post-production today isn’t a lack of tools. It’s too many tools, changing too quickly, with very little time to figure out which ones actually make you better at your job,” says Eran Stern, a creative technologist, motion designer and Post|Production World instructor.
The concern is larger than any single application. A CVL Economics study commissioned by the Animation Guild, the Concept Art Association and other industry groups estimated that 21.4% of film, television and animation jobs, roughly 118,500 positions, could be consolidated, replaced or eliminated by generative AI by 2026. Only 26% of entertainment executives surveyed said their workforce was prepared to integrate the technology.
That appetite shows up inside Post|Production World (P|PW) itself. At Post|Production World Las Vegas in 2026, 33 different AI-focused sessions drew attendee feedback, covering editing, audio post, VFX, ethics and the legal questions that come with new tools, and AI sessions accounted for roughly one in five of all session feedback responses in Future Media Concepts’ post-show survey.

Training for Judgment

Produced by Future Media Concepts at NAB Show New York, the conference runs October 20-21. Sessions follow the real work of editing, color, motion graphics, sound and production, with instruction in Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and Cinema 4D. Dedicated sessions also examine where AI belongs in editing, VFX, production planning and content workflows, including the ethical and legal questions that come with it.
