The team at ATM Virtual share their technological autumn/winter season innovations
As summer ends and unpredictable weather sets in, the film production world traditionally retreats from outdoor locations to indoor soundstages. However, Warsaw-based studio ATM Virtual is proving that virtual locations are now just a fraction of the benefit. By optimising pre-production time and leveraging the quality, the studio is redefining the rules in an industry.
No More Waiting Weeks: The Five-Day Revolution
Currently, the window from receiving a brief to stepping onto a set powered by LED volume technology can take as little as five days. This unprecedented turnaround makes virtual production an exceptionally competitive alternative, freeing producers from bureaucracy and the unpredictability of traditional locations while handing them total control over their schedules.
A Global Passport and a Virtual Fleet in the Heart of Warsaw
Over the past year, ATM Virtual demonstrated that impressive production value doesn’t require multi-million-dollar travel budgets. The studio took viewers on a global journey in just a few months, to places such as: bustling New York bar, on the sunny beach of Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, and during a golden-hour barge cruise down the Seine in Paris. The studio’s setup also enabled instant shifts to rainy London, Thailand, or Morocco. Their range of virtual transport has also expanded — ATM’s track record now includes motorcycles, cars, yachts, helicopters, hot-air balloons, planes, buses, horses and even a car ferry. These achievements form the foundation of their new seasonal push; in fact, it isn’t the first time the studio has defied climate constraints, having previously generated a hyper-realistic blizzard in the middle of a scorching summer or hot air balloon race over the Saudi desert.
Technology Driving Imagination: Key DLSS upgrade and AI Optimisation
Behind this narrative freedom lie major technological upgrades. A key driver for rendering such complex Unreal Engine environments is the integration of advanced DLSS technology, which allows for real-time rendering of worlds much richer in detail.
