BioShock Director Says He’s Been ‘Dying’ to Make the Movie

In an interview with GamesRadar+, BioShock movie director Francis Lawrence says the script is close to where it needs to be. He says he feels good about the script so far and is very eager to make the Netflix adaptation.
“We’re still working on a script, and I think we’re pretty close, and I’m feeling really good about it,” he said during a press tour for Sunrise on the Reaping.“Yeah, I would love to make it. I’ve been like dying to. I’ve been working at it. I’ve been trying.”
As for when a new BioShock game might surface, 2K announced major franchise moves in August 2025. That month, Rod Fergussonjoined 2K to lead the franchise. It was also reported that a remake of the original game was shelved in 2025 and that the development studio laid off around 30% of its workforce.
The only news about a new game was that development hell had struck the franchise’s plans after it failed an executive review.
