NBC’s Monday night comedy lineup is coming back November 2, and between the questionable workplace decisions atSt. Denis Medical and Tracy Morgan’s ongoing attempt at redemption inThe Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, there’s going to be plenty of foolishness to go around.
The network has released official trailers for both returning comedies, giving viewers a preview of what’s ahead. One involves medical professionals whose personal lives are becoming almost as complicated as their patients’ problems. The other follows a disgraced former football star trying to convince the world he’s worthy of another chance. Neither situation sounds particularly peaceful, but that’s why we’re watching.
‘St. Denis Medical’ Is Back, and Somebody Should Probably Call HR
The doctors and nurses at St. Denis already have enough problems trying to keep their underfunded Oregon hospital running. But Season 3 is throwing even more relationship drama into the emergency department, because who needs a healthy work-life balance anyway?
The new trailer welcomes back Dr. Ron (David Alan Grier), who is returning after undergoing heart surgery. You would think surviving a major medical procedure might earn the man a peaceful first day back, but this is St. Denis. His workspace has been repurposed, and he’s introduced to Dr. Highland, played by guest star Damon Wayans.
That’s right, anIn Living Color reunion! Grier and Wayans are sharing the screen again, and their characters are already finding ways to get under each other’s skin. The trailer even teases a competitive handshake between the two doctors. Gentlemen, there are patients who need medical attention.
Meanwhile, Matt (Mekki Leeper) and Serena (Khayun Kim) are dealing with their own relationship complications. Serena isn’t exactly rushing to call Matt her boyfriend, which sounds like a conversation that’s going to get uncomfortable very quickly. And then there’s Joyce (Wendi McLendon-Covey), who isn’t thrilled about workplace romances. Considering the personal drama unfolding around her, she might want to start drafting an official policy. Preferably before everybody ends up in another awkward staff meeting.
Ariana Madix is also returning as Dr. Brooke Emerson, adding another familiar face to the hospital’s increasingly complicated workplace. Between the romantic confusion, bruised egos, and medical emergencies, Season 3 looks ready to remind viewers why this hospital probably deserves a bigger budget and a very patient human re
‘The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins’ Returns for Another Round of Damage Control
Over on the other side of NBC’s comedy lineup, Tracy Morgan is back as Reggie Dinkins, a former football star who would very much like everybody to forget about the scandal that ruined his reputation.
Unfortunately for Reggie, rebuilding your image isn’t quite as simple as telling people you’re a changed man and hoping they believe you.
Season 2 continues the story of Reggie’s attempts to reclaim his place in the spotlight with help from documentary filmmaker Arthur Tobin, played by Daniel Radcliffe. The idea is to show the world a different side of Reggie, but considering his personality, keeping that documentary from becoming a public relations nightmare is practically a full-time job.
Reggie is still chasing the admiration of his fans, the respect of his family, and the possibility of making it into the Hall of Fame. That’s a pretty ambitious to-do list for a man whose past continues to follow him around.
Erika Alexander, Bobby Moynihan, Precious Way, and Jalyn Hall also return as part of the ensemble.
The comedy, created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means, had a successful freshman run, earning a second-season renewal after becoming one of NBC’s standout new comedies. With Morgan’s unpredictable comedic energy and Radcliffe playing the filmmaker caught up in Reggie’s comeback campaign, there’s plenty of room for the situation to get even more ridiculous.
And really, when has Reggie ever made anything easy?
NBC’s Monday Night Comedies Return November 2
St. Denis Medical returns for Season 3 on Monday, November 2, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, followed byThe Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins Season 2 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Both series will also be available to stream on Peacock.
It’s a solid comedy pairing for the network, offering viewers two very different workplaces where the people involved could probably benefit from making better decisions.
One hospital is struggling to maintain order, one former football star is still trying to repair his reputation, and NBC is putting all that dysfunction into one hour of television.
Monday nights could use a few laughs.
