In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Olihe biggest talking point about her new movie, Wicker. Colman says that she is usually hesitant about performing sex scenes, but praises how effective Wicker‘s sex scenes prove to be. She partially attributes that to the professionalism of the crew
“Al and Eleanor are a married couple, so they’d demonstrate for us,” Colman says. “Then the intimacy coordinator (Ita O’Brien) … she was a dancer in her youth, and she sort of turns things into a dance routine, so that I’ve got something to follow, and everyone knows where they are.”
Interestingly, the film’s directors admit that they originally sold Colman on the film by downplaying how significant the sex scenes would end up being to the movie.
“We actually said, ‘Don’t worry, the sex scenes are just played for comedy, it is not going to be full on,’” Eleanor Wilson notes. “But Oliin what she does based on a script.”
What they ended up with, though, were sex scenes that director Alex Huston Fischer describes as “pretty hot.” Wilson also points out the inherent comedy of it all and that the directors “always thought of the sex scenes as the comedy of the film, too. They were supposed to be played for laughs, and they are.”
Wilson actually says that the turning point came when co-star Alexander Skarsgård got into costume and really got to work with Colman and the film’s intimacy coordinator. Together, they helped make those scenes “surprisingly more sexy” than the directors thought they would be. For his part, Skarsgård notes that the costume certainly made everything a bit more difficult but did encourage… experimentation.
“Those early days was also us figuring out how to deal with this costume I was in because, again, it was all practical. There was no CGI, really. Or very little CGI,” Skarsgård recalls in an interview with People. “So, it was figuring out how to move in it. It was still, again, because it was early days, me discovering what the limitations were.”
Thecrew recalls that there was one point when Skarsgård, Colman, Fischer, Wilson, O’Brien, and cinematographer Lol Crawley were all experimenting with different positions in bed in order to find the best way to practically film them. The culmination of those antics was a scene in which the bed breaks while Colman and Skarsgård were in it. Skarsgård recalls that the pair knew the moment was coming and that it was like “a rollercoaster” as they anticipated the moment. Colman has a succinct yet powerful recollection of that moment.
