The world will celebrate on Wednesday the creativity of photographers on World Photography Day, observed annually on August 19.

The occasion recognizes photographers’ efforts and their role in highlighting humanitarian and social issues, portraying values of solidarity and coexistence, and using the aesthetics and art of photography to reflect people’s lives and their efforts to develop the planet and preserve its re

In this context, the importance of sports photography stands out since photographers play an important role in documenting and capturing the features of Qatar’s comprehensive sporting development across various fields, highlighting the role of institutions in promoting a culture of sports, and raising awareness of the importance of physical activity and its contribution to improving quality of life.

On this occasion, the Director of the Qatar Photography Center at the Ministry of Culture Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain said, in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), that the Qatar Photography Center has continued, since its establishment, to fulfill its mission of supporting the photography movement in Qatar and reinforcing the status of the image as a visual language that documents achievements, reflects the country’s cultural and civilizational identity, and contributes to developing a generation of photographers capable of competing and creating across various fields of photography.

On World Photography Day, the Qatar Photography Center affirms that photography will remain one of the most important means of documentation, expression, and communication. Its mission will continue to focus on supporting creative talent, developing their skills, and strengthening the presence of Qatari photography locally and internationally in a way that reflects Qatar’s achievements and preserves its visual memory for future generations.

Al Buainain emphasized that the Center has devoted particular attention to sports photography, based on its belief that sports photos are no longer merely a record of a moment, but have become a means of showcasing success stories, conveying the emotions of competition and achievement, and highlighting Qatar’s sporting renaissance at both the local and international levels.

He pointed out that the Qatar Photography Center has launched specialized programs and initiatives that have attracted many amateurs and talented photographers, providing them with opportunities to discover their abilities and hone their skills. As a result, a number of them have become active photographers who participate in covering sports events and tournaments and have established a notable presence in this field.

He pointed out that among the most prominent of these initiatives was the second edition of the “Football Photographer”, implemented in cooperation with the Qatar Football Association. The center also sought to highlight the artistic and cultural aspects of sports photography by organizing the “World Cup Legacy” exhibition, which opened in conjunction with the launch of the 2026 World Cup and showcased highlights of the sporting legacy left by Qatar’s hosting of the tournament. In addition, the center continues to organize exhibitions, competitions, training workshops, and specialized programs that provide Qatari and resident photographers with opportunities for continuous development and open new horizons for creativity across various fields of photography.

Looking ahead, Jassim Al Buainain affirmed that the Qatar Photography Center aims to expand its specialized photography programs and strengthen its partnerships with various sectors across the country, while continuing to invest in training and developing young talent. This, he said, will help ensure the sustainability of the field and nurture professional photographers equipped with both technical skills and artistic vision.

Regarding his personal experience, vision as a photographer, photographic style, andraphy is not merely a visual recording of reality, but rather reflects the photographer’s perspective and feelings toward the subject in his artistic work. He noted that he is always keen to search for the moment that carries value or meaning, whether through the choice of subject, the treatment of light, composition, or colors

Qatar Photography Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, works to develop the photography movement in the country and discover the creative talents of young Qataris in this field through courses, workshops, competitions, and photography exhibitions held throughout the year. The Center maintains a strong and sustained commitment to encouraging photographers, enhancing their capabilities, and developing their artistic skills in the field of photography.
