Ridley Scott details his filmmaking process after ‘The Dog Stars’ release
Ridley Scott opens up about process his films go through before cameras roll

Ridley Scott recently shared how he shapes his visual approach before filmmaking and storytelling.
While conversing with PEOPLEmagazine, the 88-year-old English filmmaker revealed that he starts visualizing long before cameras roll, and then he draws the complete movie, giving credit to his art school.
Scott told the outlet, “I’m filming on paper in my head, but then it goes onto the paper because my time at art school is the most useful time in my life. I use everything at an art school today.”
He went on to state that “very few films land on my desk. Usually I develop most of my stuff. Occasionally, one will land.”
“I’m a very quick decision maker. And most importantly, I always turn up knowing exactly what I’m going to do,” the Gladiatormaker quipped.
Notably, Scott is now working on making Treasure Island, as he said, “As soon as I knew what I wanted to do, I started to draw.”
It is pertinent to mention that Ridley Scott’s latest film is The Dog Stars, which was released in theatres on August 28, 2026. The film has an ensemble cast, including Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce, and others.
