When asked about the sequel to the F1 film, Lewis Hamilton, who was already involved in the first installment as a producer, confirmed that the project was progressing. The Briton is working on the script with the producers and insists he wants to take the time to make this second film a success.

As the success of the Hollywood film about Formula 1 continues to be felt, Lewis Hamilton has revealed that production on the sequel is already underway. Speaking at a press conference for the first Grand Prix of the season in Melbourne, Australia, the seven-time world champion explained that several meetings had already taken place to begin writing the script: “And yes, we are already working on the first script. Our first meeting was towards the end of last year – Jerry [Bruckheimer], [Joseph Kosinski], and I – to discuss different ideas, different avenues to explore for the script. Then, with [Ehren Kruger], we had many meetings about it. It’s really exciting. I’m super excited.”

The Ferrari driver says he learned a lot from his first experience and wants to use that feedback to improve for the future. “Now that I’ve been through it, and it was already very intense the first time, I’m used to it, so I know what to expect, I know what we could improve.” The Briton also emphasizes the film’s impact on the public, explaining that he still receives messages from viewers discovering the sport thanks to the film. “It’s incredible to see the impact the film has had, the number of people who loved it. I still get messages from people who have just seen it and tell me that it opened their eyes to the sport and immersed them in a fascinating world to learn more about it.”

Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the project, Lewis Hamilton insists on the need to take the necessary time to make this second installment a success, aware that sequels can sometimes disappoint. “The second point is that… sequels aren’t always successful. We have a great team, a fantastic cast, a talented screenwriter, so I’m not worried, but we’re going to take our time to make sure the result is perfect.”

Lewis Hamilton, rather behind the camera

When asked about a possible larger on-screen role, the 41-year-old driver explained that he didn’t necessarily want to pursue an acting career, preferring to remain in a producing role. “I don’t really want to be in front of the camera. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to act in films. I really like the idea of being behind the scenes.” Hamilton did say, however, that he had enjoyed certain experiences, notably his voice work in the animated film Cars 2 , while also highlighting the challenges of acting. “I really admire actors. Well, their profession. It’s such a difficult industry, and portraying those characters is a real challenge. I don’t know if I would particularly excel at it.”

The Briton finally confirmed his desire to develop more audiovisual projects in the coming years. “But I plan to produce many television programs, documentaries, and films. I have a lot of projects underway, so I’ll probably focus more on production than on filming.” Beyond the F1 series , Lewis Hamilton intends to continue his involvement in the film and television industry, primarily behind the scenes.
