    TRAILERS

First Look Teaser for Revelatory ‘Capturing Bigfoot’ Documentary Film

“I haven’t seen this.” “I don’t know if anybody has.” 📽️ XYZ Films has revealed the first teaser trailer for the documentary film titled Capturing Bigfoot, a revelatory new look at the first ever iconic video footage of Sasquatch walking by in a forest. Yet another new Bigfoot movie to enjoy among many others recently – but this one offers more than just conspiracy theories this time. On October 20, 1967, Roger Patterson captured 59 seconds of film showing a creature walking through the Northern California woods—footage that became the most analyzed and debated in history (seen here). 57 years later, a reel of 16mm film discovered in a safe changes everything. Capturing Bigfoot reveals the untold story behind the world’s greatest mystery, told for the first time by Patterson’s own son and the people who were there. This is a story about family legacy, broken friendships, and belief itself. This fascinating film first premiered at the 2026 SXSW <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/09/14/from-chris-rock-to-helen-mirren-10-films-to-look-out-for-at-the-toronto-film-festival-2026/" title="From Chris Rock to Helen Mirren: 10 films to look out for at the Toronto film festival 2026″>Film Festival earlier this year (read more here). The seismic Sasquatch doc directed by Marq Evans will arrive in time for National Bigfoot Day on the 59th Anniversary of the OG Patterson-Gimlin Film. Get a first look tease below.

Here’s the first teaser trailer for Marq Evans’s documentary Capturing Bigfoot, direct from YouTube:

“That footage is one of the most recognizable images in the world, but the people behind it have privately carried its weight for almost sixty years. This film is their story; about family, loyalty, and the truths they’ve held onto or finally let go of. I’m grateful they trusted me to help them finally tell it.” –Director Marq Evans

Follows the story of Roger Patterson’s pursuit of Bigfoot, who on October 20, 1967, captured 59 seconds of film showing a creature (dubbed “Patty”) walking through the woods of Northern California—footage that became the most analyzed and debated in history. When a reel of 16mm film discovered in a safe five decades later blows the legend wide open, the people who were there come together to give the full picture. This theatrical event, marking the 59th Anniversary of the Patterson-Gimlin film, gives audiences an opportunity to experience the film communally. This mirrors how Roger Patterson screened the original Patterson-Gimlin film across the country, effectively going “viral” before the digital age and grossing over $5M in the US box office (adjusted for inflation). Despite receiving many offers to screen at festivals throughout 2026, the film was held back from public viewing to preserve the integrity of the never-before-seen footage so that audiences across North America could experience the revelation at the same moment.

Capturing Bigfoot is a documentary film directed by American indie filmmaker Marq Evans, also director of the films The Glamour & the Squalor, Cow by Bear, Claydream, and The Diamond King previously. It’s produced by Tamir Ardon, Marq Evans, and Nick Spicer. This initially premiered at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. XYZ Films debuts Evans’ Capturing Bigfoot film in select US theaters + on Prime Video for streaming starting on October 20th, 2026 this fall. For more details, visit the film’s official site.
