    Award-winning films on the programme of CinEast (Cannes & more)

    Seven films from this year’s Cannes festival will have their Luxembourgish premieres at CinEast: Fjord by Cristian Mungiu (Palme d’Or), Fatherland by Paweł Pawlikowski (Best Director, CinEast Opening Film), The Dreamed Adventure by Valeska Grisebach (Jury Prize), Moulin by László Nemes; Ulya by Viesturs Kairišs; Dua by Blerta Basholli and The Diary of a Chambermaid by Radu Jude (CinEast Closing Film). In addition, the festival features the winner of Locarno’s Golden Leopard You Don’t Belong Here by Florin Şerban, Sundance winners Shame and Money by Visar Morina (World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic) and To Hold a Mountain by Biljana Tutorov and Petar Glomazić (World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary), and also If Pigeons Turned to Gold by Pepa Lubojacki (Documentary Award, Berlinale) and Mariinka by Pieter-Jan De Pue (Audience Award, CPH:DOX), among many others. 

    Eleven films in the 2026 programme are their countries’ official entries for the upcoming Academy Awards: If Pigeons Turned to Gold by Pepa Lubojacki (Czech Republic), Dua by Blerta Basholli (Kosovo), Ulya by Viesturs Kairišs (Latvia), Fatherland by Paweł Pawlikowski (Poland), Fjord by Cristian Mungiu (Romania), To Hold a Mountain by Biljana Tutorov & Petar Glomazić (Montenegro), Our Erika by German Golub (Estonia), Guria by Levan Koguashvili (Georgia – also a Luxembourg co-production, screening in avant-première on 21/10), 17 by Kosara Mitić (North Macedonia), Flood by Martin Gonda (Slovakia) and The Dreamed Adventure by Valeska Grisebach (Bulgaria).

    The photography exhibition “Crossroads”, presented as part of this year’s thematic cycle of the same name, brings together five documentary projects exploring moments of transition, uncertainty and choice, by Cosmin Bumbuț & Elena Stancu, Andrea Diefenbach, Agata Grzybowska, Vesselina Nikolaeva and Jules Slutsky. Curated by Grażyna Siedlecka, the exhibition will be freely accessible at neimënster from 8 to 21 October. The exhibition opening takes place on 8/10 at 18:30 (free admission). In parallel, an open-air exhibition of festival posters is on display on the fence of the Czech Embassy (Glacis, 25/9–15/10).

    Highlights of the Warm-up Weekend (9–11/10)

    Ahead of the Official Opening on 14 October, the festival kicks off with a Warm-Up Weekend featuring many highlights: the Opening Concert with Shantel& Bucovina Club Soundsystem (Melusina, 9/10); a screening of Andrzej Wajda’s Danton followed by a conversation with Oscar-winning production designer Allan Starski (Théâtre des Capucins, 9/10); the tribute to Béla Tarr withSátántangó (Théâtre des Capucins, 10/10); a jazz concert by Bulgarian ensembleGloBalKan (neimënster, 10/10); a special screening of Erupcja, followed by a DJ set (hqLX, 10/10, free entry); the documentary Silver with a talk on the environmental impact of mining, as part of “Screenings for the Planet” (Ciné Utopia, 10/10); and a concert by Ukrainian jazz trioShekBand (neimënster, 11/10).
