The book “6 LIVES – Book of Film Scripts”, which brings together six scripts by young authors from the RE community, was presented on Monday evening at the “Kružni tok” Cultural Center. The publication is the result of the Start Movie Art project, which enabled young people to develop their own authorial voices through a year of work, mentoring support, and introduction to the art of film.
The book includes the scenarios “My Mija”, “Counterattack”, “Scars of the Past”, “Brother-in-law’s Diploma”, “Decision” and “Below Deck”, whose authors are:Arijan Gashi, Leonardo Čakoli, Rabija Đukatani, Bajram Krasnić, Aljison Gashi i Alija KrasniqiThrough stories about growing up, family, love, fears, responsibility and making personal decisions, young authors address experiences that rarely get the chance to be told from their perspective.
The project was conceived by a playwright Theodore Kip, and was realized by the production company ŽIŽArt, with the support of the Film Center of Montenegro and the Secretariat of the Capital City of Podgorica. The participants, aged 15 to 19, worked with the mentoring support of Kip and the drama artist during the one-year process. Sandra Vujović.

The special significance of the project is also reflected in its inclusive dimension, as it provides young people from the Roma community with a space to express their own experiences, attitudes and worldviews through art. In this context, the film script becomes a means by which the voices of marginalized groups can be heard outside the framework in which they are most often represented, giving young authors the opportunity to shape their own stories about themselves and their community. At the same time, getting to know the language of film and the screenwriting process contributes to their education and the development of creative skills, but also opens up the possibility of more active participation in cultural life.
Speaking to “Vijesti” about her experience working with young authors, Kipa highlighted their immediacy, freedom of expression, and willingness to openly convey emotions through writing, which, she believes, contributed to the natural development of their ideas in screenwriting form.
“It was very interesting to work with young representatives of the RE community, who were high school students at the time. They are extremely bright, direct, and unafraid to bare their emotions and honestly convey what they feel, unlike us who often had certain reservations during our studies. That is precisely why their ideas easily and naturally find their way into screenwriting form,” said Kipa.
She assessed that the book opens up space for the affirmation of the film script as a separate publishing form, but also enables the author’s stories to reach the audience regardless of the possibility of their film realization.
“In our country, the book of film scripts practically does not exist as a separate publishing form. It seems to me that the script is not yet clearly positioned in either literature or film art when it comes to its presentation through a book. That is why I believe that with this project we are opening a new path through which we can popularize the film script and make it more accessible to the audience, especially considering that the process of making a film is long and demanding and that many scripts never get the chance to be made into a film,” said Kipa.
Speaking about further possibilities for the development of the project, she also emphasized the importance of the support of representatives of the RE community in promoting the book and creating space for a different presentation of Roma identity in Montenegro.
“I would like to be supported by influential representatives of the RE community in the further implementation of the project, so that we can promote the book even more widely, but also open up space for creating a different, more authentic and diverse picture of Roma identity in Montenegro,” said Kipa.
In the book’s foreword, the film director Sara Stijovićemphasizes the value of young authors’ direct experience in stories about growing up, while the playwright Milo Besovic In the review, he emphasizes the importance of screenplays as independent authorial expression and the universality of the themes they bring.
The book was published by ŽIŽArt, and the editors are Teodora Kipa and Sara Stijović. She was responsible for the graphic design, illustration and preparation. Sanja Dabovic, while proofreading and editing is done by Ivana LakićevićThe printing was carried out by the company Obodsko slovo, and the book’s friend is the NGO Phiren Amenca.
The promotion was an opportunity to introduce the authors, their stories, and the process that led from initial ideas to six completed scripts combined in one publication.
