Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo have wrapped filming on Netflix’s live-action Gundam adaptation, with the production now moving into post-production ahead of its planned 2027 release.

Filmed under the working title Teardrop, principal photography concluded after an approximately three-month shoot in Australia.

Production took place primarily at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast in Queensland, with additional filming in Brisbane and Toowoomba.

According to the production, the project employed more than 350 local cast and crew members and contributed an estimated $110 million to the Queensland economy. Cast and crew also marked the end of filming with a wrap party held in mid-July.

Sweeney and Centineo lead an 11-member ensemble, portraying rival mech pilots on opposing sides of a decades-long interplanetary conflict between Earth and its former space colonies.

The story draws inspiration from a Romeo and Juliet-style relationship, with the pair caught between opposing allegiances.

Netflix describes the film’s premise as follows, “As shifting allegiances and a growing threat set them on a collision course for one another, they’re pulled into a high-stakes race across the stars that could define the fate of humanity.”

In addition to starring in the film, Sweeney and Centineo also serve as producers.

The supporting cast includes Shioli Kutsuna, Jackson White, Jason Isaacs, Nonso Anozie, Michael Mando, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Javon Walton, Ida Brooke and Gemma Chua-Tran.

The project is co-developed by Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks, the studio behind the original Gundam anime franchise, and will be distributed exclusively by Netflix.
