Course Director Matt Wohl serves as the President of Film Florida and brings that industry experience to his classes.

Full Sail University Course Director Matt Wohl recently became the President of Film Florida, a nonprofit organization that promotes filmmaking in the Sunshine State. As president, he leads initiatives like the Emerging Filmmakers Fund and developing streaming platform Film Florida TV, which launched in June 2026 and features Florida-focused content.

During his term as president of Film Florida, Matt is excited to work on a variety of projects with one goal in mind.

“I really feel like it’s important for Florida’s homegrown film industry to have a voice, so I want to give that to filmmakers and help them be able to create the art that they love,” Matt shares. “It’s an honor to be able to represent Florida for national and international film projects, but also to represent all of our local filmmakers who so desperately need support and guidance to be able to thrive.”

Matt not only advocates for filmmakers through Film Florida, he also mentors the next generation of creatives in Full Sail’s Film Production master’s program.

As a Course Director, Matt teaches Story Development for Film, where students work on writing the script for their short film thesis project. He facilitates table reads of students’ scripts, giving feedback and allowing students to critique each other’s projects as they work toward the best version of their scripts.

He brings an extensive career in education to his classes – he previously served as the Chair of the School of Entertainment and Design Technology at Miami Dade College and the Chair of the Film and Media Department at Burlington College – and shares his wealth of knowledge with his students.

Matt is also writing, directing, and producing a television series alongside other faculty and giving students and grads the chance to take on production crew roles like camera operators, lighting techs, sound techs, and more. Students can not only create something fun and original, but they’ll also get valuable hands-on experience in a film production setting.

To succeed in the film industry, Matt recommends persistence.

“I think that what’s most important is to keep showing up and keep caring about your journey,” he says.
