Thomas C. Flanagan’s Obituary
Thomas C. “Tom” Flanagan of Hull, Massachusetts, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, August 10, 2026, at the age of 74.
Tom grew up in Norwood and Cambridge, Massachusetts, alongside his sister, Joanne Hastings, and spent much of his life in the Greater Boston area. He is survived by his longtime partner and wife, Frances Osborn; his children, Jamie Lein, Abigail Flanagan, and Alexander Osborn-Flanagan; his grandchildren, Mason Lein and Henry Flanagan; his sister, Joanne Hastings; and extended family.
A self-proclaimed geek, Tom had a lifelong fascination with technology and was always interested in whatever came next. He enjoyed having the newest video game system, movie player, gadget, or piece of emerging technology and following the changes that transformed the way people watched movies, played games, and entertained themselves.
Tom was also a longtime movie fan. He had a particular love for classic Disney films, an appreciation he passed down to his children, along with a fondness for the unmistakable comedy of Mel Brooks. Movies, games, technology, and the various hobbies he picked up over the years remained enduring interests throughout his life.
In more recent years, Tom became an avid slot car racing enthusiast. What began as an interest grew into an elaborate hobby as he created incredibly detailed model villages and landscapes for his cars to race through. The miniature worlds became projects unto themselves, complete with their own details and stories. He took great enjoyment in building them, adding to them, and explaining their many features and stories to anyone willing to listen.
Tom’s interests reflected a curiosity for how things worked and an enthusiasm for the hobbies that captured his attention. From the earliest home entertainment technology to the intricate slot car villages of his later years, he found enjoyment in collecting, creating, tinkering, and sharing the things that interested him.
He leaves behind a family spanning generations, along with the interests, movies, memories, and traditions that became part of their lives as well.
