Emotionally resonant screenplay earns top honors for its exceptional storytelling, character development, and cinematic execution

Cut to Black Prize was a resounding success, and Call Sheet Media was honored to showcase and celebrate some of the industry’s most impressive and accomplished storytellers.”— Thomas Haldeman
LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Cut to Black Prize is thrilled to announce that Dinosaurs Are Singing has been selected as the $10,000 Grand Prize Winner of our premier screenwriting competition

The screenplay distinguished itself throughout the competition, impressing evaluators across every dimension of the craft. Gnazale demonstrates exceptional command of story construction, character development, dialogue, pacing, emotional depth, and dramatic structure, resulting in a screenplay that is at once deeply personal and irresistibly cinematic.

At the heart of Dinosaurs Are Singing is a powerful exploration of artistic legacy, personal sacrifice, and the often-unseen human cost of creative achievement.

The story centers on Julian Roake, a legendary film sound editor whose celebrated career collides with a deeply unresolved relationship with his estranged son, Owen. Their conflict gives the screenplay substantial emotional weight while offering a fresh and provocative perspective on Hollywood mythology, creative ownership, memory, and the complicated ways an artist’s greatest achievements can become inseparable from the people who helped make them possible.

The screenplay’s writing is confident, nuanced, and highly visual. Its dialogue feels authentic and purposeful, while its pacing sustains dramatic momentum without sacrificing character development or emotional complexity. The central conflict unfolds organically, allowing both Julian and Owen to emerge as fully realized characters rather than simple opposing forces.

Most importantly, Dinosaurs Are Singing understands that its greatest spectacle is not the dinosaur roar at the center of the story. It is the human story behind it.

That distinction helped elevate the screenplay throughout the judging process. Behind the mythology of movies, sound, celebrity, and artistic legacy is an intimate story about a father and son confronting what was gained, what was lost, and whether recognition can ever compensate for personal sacrifice.

“Dinosaurs Are Singing is an accomplished and emotionally resonant screenplay that showcases exceptional screenwriting talent,” said the Cut to Black Prize judging team. “The screenplay combines sophisticated character work with a highly cinematic premise and demonstrates the kind of storytelling command that remained with our evaluators long after reading it.”

Call Sheet Media and the Cut to Black Prize congratulate Tim Gnazale on this outstanding achievement and his selection as the $10,000 Grand Prize Winner.

Tim Gnazale is an author and screenwriter whose creative work spans more than 25 years. His professional background encompasses fitness and wellness, and high-technology marketing.

Gnazale is the author of seven books spanning self-help, fitness, autobiography, humanity, and spirituality. For him, writing is both a creative and cathartic endeavor—an opportunity to explore and share deeply held experiences, ideas, and knowledge while connecting with readers and audiences through meaningful dialogue and feedback.

His professional and creative work has included appearances on national radio and community-access television, as well as participation in fitness conventions, poetry competitions, and book signings.

Gnazale brings more than 30 years of experience in fitness and wellness through the American College of Sports Medicine. He has also served as a martial arts sifu through the Institute of Psycho Physical Development and has spent many years in high-technology marketing.

His personal philosophy is simple: “Perseverance never loses.”

Cut to Black Prize is a screenwriting competition dedicated to recognizing exceptional screenwriting, distinctive voices, and accomplished cinematic storytelling. As the industry’s only invitation-only screenwriting competition, Cut to Black Prize offers a highly selective platform for discovering and celebrating outstanding screenwriting talent.

Screenplays are evaluated across the essential elements of screenwriting craft, including concept, execution, structure, character development, dialogue, pacing, emotional impact, originality, and overall storytelling.

The $10,000 Grand Prize represents the competition’s highest honor.
