Belarusian filmmaker Andrei Kutsila’s “Letters From the Silenced Country,” a DW, ZDF/Arte and TVP co-production, will have its world premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival – a first for DW.

ROME, Aug 24 (Reuters) – A documentary examining Israel’s killing of civilians in Gaza was added to the Venice Film Festival line-up on Monday, the second year running that a highly charged work about the conflict has competed for the prestigious Golden Lion.

I Matter by Alina Șerbancredit: microFILM BUCHAREST: I Matter / Eu contez, the debut feature by Roma director Alina Șerban, will have its world premiere in the VeniceSpotlight competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival (2 – 12 September 2026). The Romanian/German/Belgian coproduction has Ada Solomon among its producers.

Italian and European film organisations have published a statement criticising the Venice Film Festival for the lack of Italian female filmmakers in its official selection, calling the lineup “one-dimensional” and “troubling”.

VENICE: The 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival will showcase an important  selection of films produced or coproduced by FNE partner countries, from 2 to 12 September 2026.

Venice’s artistic director Alberto Barbera unveiled the festival’s lineup yesterday (July 23), including films by Nanni Moretti, Martin McDonagh and Lee Chang-dong.
