Veteran Kumawood actor Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has opened up about the physical toll years of filming took on him, revealing that intense lighting on movie sets once caused his vision to become blurry

    • Agya Koo has revealed that intense lighting during movie productions once caused his vision to become blurry, prompting him to seek medical attention. Doctors reportedly found no eye condition but advised him to be cautious around filming lights.

    • The veteran actor said he received about GH¢4,000 while working with Miracle Films, but stressed that he did not charge the production company a fixed fee for his roles.

    • Agya Koo also dismissed claims that he earned GH¢10,000, GH¢20,000 or GH¢50,000 per movie, questioning which producer would have paid him such amounts at the time.

The actor said his eyesight began deteriorating after years of working under powerful lights during film productions.

Speaking in an interview with Lawson TV on August 23, 2026, Agya Koo recalled becoming concerned about the changes in his vision and eventually seeking medical attention.

I acted in movies till it got to a point where I saw things blurry. My vision was deteriorating because of the lighting we used to film

He said doctors examined his eyes but found no underlying condition, instead advising him to be more cautious about his exposure to the lighting used during productions.

I went to the hospital and I was asked to read some things. After reading, the doctor told me that nothing was wrong with my eyes. I was advised to be careful of the lighting we use to work

Agya Koo also used the interview to clarify claims about the amount of money he earned during his active years in the Kumawood industry.

He revealed that while living in Accra, he received about GH¢4,000 in connection with his movie work, but stressed that this was not a fixed acting fee negotiated with Miracle Films.

When I was staying in Accra, I was being paid GH¢4,000. I didn’t get that money from Miracle Films and I wasn’t even charging them

According to the actor, he did not demand a specific fee for the films he made with the production company. Instead, he said the producer would decide how much to give him after each project.

All the movies I acted in, I didn’t charge Miracle Films, so when we were done, he would just give me the amount he had

Agya Koo further disclosed that he appeared in approximately seven or eight films during the period, often working on productions consecutively.

Travelling from Accra to various filming locations became increasingly demanding, he said, prompting him to ask for an advance on money he was due so he could acquire a vehicle.

There were some seven to eight movies I was featured in and I worked back to back. I had to tell him that because I was coming from Accra, I was getting stressed, so the money he was supposed to pay, he should lend me so that I could use it to get a small car to use

The actor said they eventually purchased a car for about GH¢4,500, which made travelling to movie locations easier.

We got the car for around GH¢4,500 and I started using it to movie locations

The veteran actor also addressed reports that he earned as much as GH¢10,000, GH¢20,000 or GH¢50,000 per movie during the height of his career.

Agya Koo questioned the credibility of such claims, asking which film producer would have paid him those amounts at the time.
