The day I was born, AHA’s Take On Me was playing on the radio. Even as an infant, I can still see the image of when I first heard music. It is now it is one of my main ways to escape reality. Another big part of my life is, of course, horror movies. I live, breathe, and fight for those magical gory moments. A lot of the time, I was sucked into movie soundtracks. I found a new me. I could feel the hype deep down. Why? I don’t know; I think my favorites will always stay that way. No breakthrough could suck its way into this list.
Here are 10 fantastic soundtracks, in my opinion.
10. SLC Punk
This movie has held my life hostage since I first saw it. I was in love with the story of being just a punk kid. It was relatable because of the I don’t give a ” (I try to avoid naughty words; only swear words to make myself look cool). However, the soundtrack introduced me to a lot of bands I still cherish 30 years later. The film even showed the pain of losing someone, and the ending is completely perfect musically with the pain you feel.
9. Judgement Night
This soundtrack was the birth of metal and hip hop for me. Fusing was perfect for every single song in this soundtrack from beginning to end. Though I have found a lot more genres over time, mashes like Biohazard and Onyx make old songs new again. I will always see this soundtrack as the actual birth of Nu Metal. Tough Guys made me see it differently, but not enough to sway my life choices, and believe me, they tried. I am who I am, and I learned to love myself. All because of one soundtrack.
8.Crazy Heart
Yeah, I went there. I loved this movie the first time I saw it. I was in love with the melancholy about a former star trying their best. I don’t exactly know why, but honestly, this is one of my favorite soundtracks. Every song, every moment was perfect. Haunted by his past meant we were going to hear real music, and then the story totally went off track, in a good way.
7. Follow That Bird
Yeah, I know, it’s a kiddy type of movie; the music hit every moment and sent your mind to the good times, or the sad times, or even if you had a bad day, I suggest watching this as an adult. I know no one will take my advice, but try. You can feel so many emotions at so many times, backed by new Sesame Street music and a snack for Cookie Monster.
6. Type O Negative’s Nosferatu Soundtrack
It’s a real hard find these days, but I have never heard such a music choice for each moment. However it’s still number 6, but it’s a strong six that won’t budge. Though I have seen the movie a million times, one time a friend of mine found this version, and I still keep it in my mind, and you know, you can watch it on free streaming somewhere out there. I guess it could be equal to eating mushrooms and the whole Wizard of Oz tripping balls and getting the perfect moment. If you haven’t tried it, maybe you should.
5. The Wedding Singer
I could go on about this movie for hours; it’s in my top 10 movies of all time. There is something about that 80’s soundtrack that can send Gen X and Xennials into flashbacks of your favorite moment here on earth before you turn to dust. Every moment is a trip back in time. I have a lot of movies I cherish, and this one is in my regular playlist while I work.
4. Freddy VS. Jason
The mashup was cool enough. You could feel the energy of modern kids getting the axe instead of summer camp counselors. It was a weird position on who to vote for in the end. Two icons battled it out to some great bands such as Soulfly and Slipknot. This soundtrack went hard as hell, saving the movie for me; I had to stop being a jerk about new things and “punk this” or “punk that.” While you’re gatekeeping, you don’t notice what is going on.
3. Mad Monster Party
This is a movie I hold onto really, really tight; this movie is my healing item when the day sucked. Some people are not aware of this Rankin/Bass movie. While they watched Rudolph and Frosty, they missed out on the perfect Halloween movies for kids, with the same style and creepier. It’s such a good time, and I strongly suggest you watch this once and fall into the musical moments. I still know all of them by heart. I handed this film on to my kids, who watched it in the middle of July.
2. Empire Records
How much can I say about this movie without describing it for a million pages, and I would still love it. I try really hard to find this album, and the songs don’t match the moments, but hey, I mean, GWAR was in it. One of my favorite things to do when I am completely down is to watch this movie with the happy story and happy soundtrack. It’s true art. No cursing, even through the ST song.

Return of the Living Dead
This is it; this is where I stand completely cemented to the ground. I will not budge on this decision. This movie is really important to me; I cherish everything about it. It still stands today in the same position. Return of the Living Dead is my favorite movie from beginning to the end. The style: I learned what punk rockers were; at 5, they looked really scary to me, scarier than the zombies. Then I learned how cool those people were. I listened to the soundtrack all the time with my aunt, who supported my love for horror. This is it, this is where it all started for me: the perfect soundtrack, the perfect story, the cast, everything fit the mood.
However, I do have one gripe that irritates me about the current version: they messed up the soundtrack; nothing fit right, and I was not impressed. However, carry on selling to millions of kids; finding horror movies like the same as me is inspiring.
Oh well, I still stand firm.
