Film production in San Francisco increased 28% in fiscal year 2025-26, with 309 productions permitted and an estimated $32.3 million in direct local spending, according to the San Francisco Film Commission.
The number of permitted productions rose from 241 the previous fiscal year, while estimated local spending increased 84.6% from $17.5 million.

Productions filmed across 555 shoot days and supported more than 3,600 local crew hires, 5,630 SAG-AFTRA bookings, and 4,303 hotel room nights, the commission said.
Spending also benefited local businesses, including caterers, equipment rental companies, hardware suppliers, and transit operators.
Major projects filmed in the city included Luca Guadagnino’s “Artificial,” Leah McKendrick’s “Voicemails for Isabelle,” and Sean Durkin’s “Deep Cuts.”
The increase followed the February 2026 expansion of San Francisco’s Scene in San Francisco incentive program. The updated program provides rebates of up to $1 million, including 10% to 20% of qualified local spending and labor, as well as reimbursement of city fees.

Film SF said productions spent $12.50 in San Francisco for every dollar rebated through the incentive program.
