‘It’s a Medical Miracle’ film review: A slick experiment let down by a loose script

It’s a Medical Miracle introduces a fascinating premise: Rubin, brought to life with grounded sincerity by Sangeeth Prathap, recovers from a lengthy coma with sonic superpower. Capable of detecting distant conversations and hidden sounds, he finds his world irrevocably altered. Intent on tracking down the nurse who cared for him, his path crosses with Sooraj (Sharafudheen), pushing the film into an erratic sequence of events. The film comes with an ambitious framework that attempts a madcap blend of supernatural, suspense, comedy and drama, but struggles to maintain its footing. While the unusual concept and clear effort behind the production are evident, the overall theatrical experience is a let-down just like its title — it totally misses the vibe of the movie.

Director Shyamin Gireesh maintains a smooth flow despite minor flaws, but the screenplay unfortunately loses its tightness far too early. It is an especially frustrating miss on the comedy front. A premise built around a guy trapped by unwanted super-hearing begs for clever, chaotic humour, but the script completely fails to capitalise on it. While there are a few adorable, light-hearted exchanges scattered throughout, the film fails to land a single genuinely hilarious moment. Similarly, the thriller plot lacks depth, functioning like flimsy duct tape hastily holding the narrative together.

Since the core storyline leans so heavily on sound to build tension, the audio landscape is forced to do the heavy lifting. The result becomes a double-edged sword that dictates the theatrical experience from start to finish. Though the sonic layering manages to heighten the narrative momentum at points, it occasionally becomes overwhelming to the ears. Despite a shaky foundation, the movie is largely rescued from sliding into total mediocrity by the heartfelt dedication of its lead actors. Sangeeth Prathap tackles his character’s bizarre sensory overload with a quiet, disarming vulnerability that grounds the entire supernatural premise in authenticity. He receives equally solid backing from Sharafudheen, who injects much-needed texture into the runtime through his comic timing and subtle expressions. Akhila Bhargavan also turns in a reliable, supporting performance that does the job without rocking the boat.

At the end of the day, It’s a Medical Miracle wastes a solid cast and some genuinely cool ideas on a script that just couldn’t cross the finish line. It’s a frustratingly polished, well-acted experiment that needed a much bolder and tighter screenplay to actually leave a mark.
