Projects by Sudanese director Mohamed Kordofani, veteran Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi and Italy’s Alain Parroni are among 67 selected for this year’s co-production market at Rome’s MIA film and TV event, which runs from October 19-23.
The 67 projects span films, animation, documentaries and scripted TV dramas in development and as work in progress films.
There are 22 film projects in development being presented at MIA, including Kordofani’s About Love & September Laws his return after Goodbye Julia which played in Cannes Un Certain Regard. It’s a romantic drama set in Khartoum in the early 1980s, where the lives of three characters intersect, each torn between love, faith, and sacrifice.
Parroni’s Blue Souvenir is written by the D’Innocenzo brothers and is a follow up to his 2023 debut An Endless Sunday, that won the special jury prize in the Venice Horizon section and the Fipresci award at Venice.
Meanwhile, MIA’s work in progress section C EU Soon has 12 films in its line-up including Zanussi latest, From Dust to Dust, a co-production between Poland and Bulgaria. The titles will compete for the Screen International Award.
MIA received more than 530 projects from 82 countries for its co-production market this year.
