The full trailer for The Beast, a new action thriller from director Renny Harlin, has arrived, putting Jackson in the role of a President forced to fight for his life — and the fate of the country — from behind the wheel of America’s most heavily protected vehicle.
The film opens in theaters October 9.
In The Beast, a coordinated attack by a militia of unidentified hostiles throws the government into chaos. The President survives the initial assault but finds himself cut off from traditional protection, with an injured Secret Service agent, played by Joel Kinnaman, bleeding in the back seat.
His unlikely weapon? The presidential limousine.
Known as “The Beast,” the heavily armored vehicle has a few secrets of its own. As the new trailer reveals, the President discovers that the car contains highly classified offensive capabilities that turn his ride into something considerably more dangerous than a means of transportation. And Jackson’s President isn’t exactly content to sit behind the wheel and wait for help.
The trailer promises car chases, explosions, hand-to-hand combat and a President who quickly realizes that the only way out may be to take matters — and the limo — into his own hands.
Jackson is no stranger to action movies, but The Beast gives him a particularly unusual playground. Rather than the President being protected by an army of Secret Service agents while the country falls apart around him, the movie puts the commander in chief directly into the action.
Kinnaman’s character, Secret Service agent Taft, becomes his injured partner as the two attempt to survive the attack and reconnect with the rest of the presidential security operation. The cast also includes Guy Burnet, Eoin Macken and Colin Morgan.
Behind the camera is Renny Harlin, the filmmaker behind action staples including Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger. The film was produced by Unified Pictures and Aura Entertainment.
The title The Beast refers to the nickname commonly associated with the presidential state car, but the movie takes the concept considerably further.
In the film, the limousine isn’t simply designed to keep the President safe. It contains technology and weaponry that become crucial to his survival once the attack begins. That gives the movie a distinctly high-concept action setup: imagine Die Hard with the entire movie taking place around the world’s most secure road vehicle.
The trailer also makes clear that The Beast isn’t approaching the premise as a straight political thriller. It’s leaning into the spectacle, with Jackson’s character moving from protected head of state to unlikely action hero.
