You’ve heard of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and you’ve heard of its collaborations with <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/10/29/the-top-50-film-schools-of-2026/” title=”The Top 50 Film Schools of 2026″>film and TV studios to bring movie– and series-inspired content into the game, but what if we told you the popular video game was getting a show of its own?
That’s right, Netflix is working on a live-action series based on PUBG — and no, we have no idea how a game without even the semblance of a plot can be made into a TV show.
Donald Glover, the actor known for his work on Community, 30 Rock and the satirical 2016 rap song ‘This Is America’, is reported as the star of the show. His brother Stephen will write and executive produce.
PUBG, which was first released in 2017, is an online, multiplayer game where each match consists of 100 players being dropped into an arena and having to fight each other in a battle royale format — the last player standing is declared the winner.
The game enjoys widespread popularity in Pakistan and has been brought under the microscope more than once over its overtly violent gameplay and the negative effects that may have on its — mostly young — audience.
The game made headlines again last month after Pakistan’s five-man national team won a bronze medal in e-sports at the Asian Games in Japan.
Should the project go ahead, it would be part of a line of video game adaptations in the works at Netflix, including a show based on the Assassin’s Creed franchise and a movie based on Gears of War.
The streaming platform is said to be working on animated series based on Minecraft and Clash of Clans, while cartoons based on Cyberpunk and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell are already part of its catalogue.
