Noah Wyle had an admittedly hilarious-sounding interaction with Eddie Murphy when he was a mere nine years old that has clearly stuck with him over the years.
The Emmy winner, who will return to HBO in January with a new season of The Pitt, recalled the moment during a recent interview with Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast while detailing his personal SNL fandom.
“I watched the first cast in reruns, but my first cast was, you know, the Eddie Murphy [cast],” Wyle, who’s also an executive producer and occasional writer and <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/10/30/john-behrens-director-of-photography/” title=”John Behrens, Director of Photography”>director on The Pitt, said.
From there, Wyle dove into the Murphy memory.
“I met Eddie once, when I was a kid, and I asked him for his autograph,” he told Poehler. “I said, ‘I really like you on SNL.’ And he said, ‘What are you doing up that late?’”
Wyle recalled nervously laughing at this remark, then got to the meat of his story.
“I said, ‘Can I have you autograph?’” Wyle, who noted he was nine years old at the time, recalled. “He goes, ‘Fuck off, man.”
The memory was clearly being playfully shared here, as Wyle laughed alongside Poehler while sharing it. Still, he credited this interaction as inspiration for his own approach to autograph-seeking fans.
“I always sign autographs,” he said. “Whenever a nine-year-old needs an autograph from me, I sign that so fast.”
Later in his life, Wyle added, one of his kids, who was 10 at the time, printed up a photo of Murphy and then feigned his autograph, offering it to him as a gift.
