The original military vehicle used in the latest Spider-Man film and currently housed in Northamptonshire is to be auctioned.
Known on screen as DD6, the machine is featured in a major chase sequence in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, alongside the web-slinging superhero played by Tom Holland.
It is currently being kept at a military vehicle experience company based in Brackley, which has been home to other iconic motors from films including Fast and Furious 6 and Black Widow.
The vehicle will be auctioned online by Humbert & Ellis on 25 November with a guide price of between £50,000 and £70,000.
Jonathon Humbert, auctioneer, said: “This film star could prove to be one of the most collectable movie props ever.”
The film, starring real-life husband and wife Tom Holland and Zendaya – set a North American record, with box office takings of $360m (£268m). It was the biggest opening weekend ever in the US and Canada.
Film production company Marvel bought the vehicle from Nick Mead who has been running Tanks A Lot in Helmdon for the last 30 years.
Originally a 1969 Alvis Stalwart 6×6 military load carrier, the vehicle was developed to carry military supplies across difficult terrain and waterways. It was known as “the Stolly”.
Mead said Marvel “completely transformed” the machine into a futuristic hero strike vehicle. It included a dramatic armoured appearance, desert camouflage and studio weathering.
Other than making it legal to be driven on the road he said it is “completely the same as it was when it left the film set”.
Mead said he has owned about 400 other military-style vehicles.
He said: “I do tend to chase film props. The [Spider-Man vehicle] is a pretty cool piece of kit.”
Mead believes the vehicle is “likely to appear in a lot more famous films.” Although he’d like it to stay in the UK, he thinks it will be used in America for film promotion.
Aside from film appearances a large number of machines have been bought from Mead’s tank collection to be used in Ukraine for casualty evacuation.
