Lights, camera, action in Boulder!
The Sundance Institute announced the first of its film selections Wednesday as the Sundance Film Festival‘s inaugural Boulder run creeps closer.
Selections are for the festival’s Legacy program, which includes groundbreaking projects from Sundance history, the institute announced in a news release.
Legacy screenings will include director and cast member appearances. They will take place from Tuesday, Jan. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 31 during the second half the festival.
The Legacy program will also include a two-part session called “Sundance Film Festival presents: Cinema Interruptus featuring Memento”(Christopher Nolan), according to the release.
More programming will be announced in coming weeks.
Legacy screenings include the following.
- “Better Luck Tomorrow” (Justin Lin)
- “Dogtown and Z-Boys” (Stacy Peralta)
- “Fool’s Fire”(Julie Taymor)
- “Nitrate Kisses” (Barbara Hammer)
- “Real Women Have Curves”(Patricia Cardoso)
- “Swoon” (Tom Kalin)
- “Y tu mamá también” (Alfonso Cuarón)
Sundance Director Eugene Hernandez said the Legacy honors founder Robert Redford and the history of the festival by looking back at films and filmmakers who have shaped it.
“Our first festival in our new home in Boulder, Colorado, will bring change, but as we evolve, we’ll keep at our core what we celebrate: our rich history,” Hernandez said in the release. “Sundance will always uplift independent voices, and our Legacy slate is a beautiful example of that.”
Sundance also announced Wednesday that film discovery platform Letterboxd will come to Boulder as a co-presenter of the Legacy program, the release said.
The 2027 Sundance Film Festival will take place Jan. 21 to Jan. 31 in Boulder. World premieres of new films will be held from Jan. 21 to Jan. 26.
Additional showings, talks and other programming will happen for the duration of the festival and audiences anywhere in the United States can watch a selection of the festival lineup online.
Ticket packages and passes are on sale online at festival.sundance.org/tickets. Tickets for individual films will go on sale starting Jan. 8.
A full festival express pass, which includes unlimited access to film screenings, costs $7,500. Single film tickets will cost $37 when they go on sale. There are a variety of ticket packages and pricing options online.
