These 5 Samsung Gallery features are so good you’ll want to ditch Google Photos

Samsung Gallery looks simple — maybe even boring — but don’t let that fool you. It’s one of the most feature-packed gallery apps on Android, and the fact that it doesn’t feel overwhelming is honestly part of the appeal.
Google Photos gets most of the attention, but Galaxy users have a better alternative, and these features make the case better than I can.

Make any video sound better with Audio Eraser

Recording videos with your Galaxy phone is fun, but if there’s one thing that often kills the quality — especially when shooting outdoors — it’s background noise. That’s not much of an issue, though, as the Gallery app’s Audio Eraser feature can clean up the audio in seconds.
It uses AI to detect up to six types of sounds in your video: voices, music, wind, nature, crowd, and noise. It then gives you a slider for each of those sounds, so you can adjust them individually — boost voices, dial back wind, and even eliminate crowd noise. There’s also a “Hear original” button, so you can A/B test as you go.
And if you don’t want to tweak things yourself, the “Auto” option lets Galaxy AI suppress background noise and clean things up on its own. If you end up liking Audio Eraser, the good news is that it’s also available in Voice Recorder, Samsung Notes, and select third-party apps.

Almost every decent Android phone has AI-powered photo editing features at this point, but Samsung Gallery’s Photo Assist is in a different league from anything else you may have tried. Its Object Eraser tool, for instance, is surprisingly — sometimes unsettlingly — good at cleaning up photos and filling that space naturally.
Generative Edit takes this up a notch — it lets you move and resize objects in your photos. So if you want to center yourself in a photo or push something to the edge of the frame, you just lasso it and drag. It even lets you expand the canvas outward if you wish you’d zoomed out while taking the shot. Again, the results are eerily natural.
Sketch to Image is a fun one. You can draw almost anything over a photo to generate a photorealistic object and blend it seamlessly into the scene. It sounds gimmicky, but you have to try it to see how well it actually works. My favorite, though, is the Remaster option, which basically lets AI enhance the photo with a single tap.
Finally, there’s AI Create, where you simply describe the changes you want, and Galaxy AI makes them for you. The only thing is that any photo you edit with these tools will have an “AI-generated content” watermark in the bottom left corner.
Create collages, GIFs, and movies without another app

Beyond editing individual photos and videos, Samsung Gallery has a Create menu that lets you make collages, GIFs, or even full movies by combining multiple clips. The Collage option lets you pick a handful of photos, arrange them in a grid, and save the result. It’s nothing fancy, but the thing that surprised me is that it works with videos too. You can stack multiple clips together to create a video collage, and it genuinely looks cool.
The GIF feature is pretty straightforward. Select a bunch of photos, set their order and playback speed, and save. It doesn’t let you create a GIF from a video, though, so you’ll still need a dedicated app for that.
The Movie option is the most feature-packed of the three. You can pick your clips, and the Gallery app gives you a mini video editor with a timeline. It lets you reorder clips, trim them, add transitions, throw in text, and even insert background music. I’ll be honest — it’s not a replacement for a proper video editing app, but it’s more than good enough for throwing together a quick highlight reel of a trip or an event.
Unlock Samsung Gallery’s hidden menu

All the Gallery features we’ve talked about so far aren’t exactly hidden, but this one is. Samsung Gallery has a menu called Gallery Labs that’s tucked away by default. To unlock it, head to Gallery Settings > About Gallery, then tap the version numberrapidly until you see the “[Labs] Gallery Labs is enabled” message. Go back to the main settings page, and you’ll find the Gallery Labs option sitting right at the bottom.
So what do you actually get here? Quite a few things, depending on your phone’s One UI version. The Album entry-locks feature, for instance, lets you lock specific albums behind your fingerprint. I find this more convenient than moving photos to a Private Album or Secure Folder since new photos and videos are covered automatically as they’re added. Another useful one is AI Zoom, which enhances small images as you pinch in. You can even enable a slideshow for selected items from here.
Most of these are niche, sure, but there are enough of them that you’ll almost certainly find something worth keeping on.
Batch-edit your photos with Gallery Assistant

This one is probably not for everyone, but if you’ve ever had to apply the same edits to a bunch of photos one by one, you know how tedious that gets. Gallery Assistant is Samsung’s answer to that problem — though I won’t blame you for not knowing about it, because it doesn’t come pre-enabled. It’s actually a Good Lock module you need to install separately, and once you do, you can open it directly in Gallery settings.
The main draw here is batch editing. You can select up to 500 images and apply the same edits to them all at once. The tools cover compressing images to save storage, rotating and flipping photos, cropping to specific dimensions, adding a watermark, and saving images as a PDF. Again, this one is niche, but I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
So those are some of the best Samsung Gallery features that often get overlooked. If I had to pick the most underrated one, Gallery Labs takes it — but I’m curious which one stands out to you. Drop it in the comments.
