Story: Set in Hyderabad’s Old City, Ameer Log follows three unemployed friends — Seenu, Rafiq and Malesh — who drift between jobs and spend their days together in the basti. A cricket match and an unexpected biryani opportunity slowly push them towards work, responsibility and a new direction in life.Review:Ameer Log takes a simple route to tell a story about friendship, ambition and growing up. The film begins with the trio caught up in the carefree rhythm of life in the basti, where cricket matches, arguments and plates of biryani fill their days. Seenu, who does not have a father, lives with his friends and struggles to stay in a job for more than a few weeks. Rafiq lives with his brother and sister-in-law, while Malesh’s father wants him to become a driver. Their circumstances are different, but their reluctance to settle down keeps them together. The film gradually gives the three friends a push towards responsibility. Seenu takes up a job as an office boy, while Rafiq joins his brother at a mechanic shop and Malesh starts driving a cab. A cricket match between the basti boys and Seenu’s office employees then sets the larger story in motion. When their ₹25,000 bet ends in disappointment, they settle for a biryani daawat instead, with Chacha, an elderly man in the basti they spend time with, taking charge of the kitchen. This eventually leads to Kiraak Biryani, turning the trio from carefree youngsters into hardworking entrepreneurs. The business succeeds initially, but commercial pressures soon begin to take a toll. When Ravi, a guy from Seenu’s office and the person behind the business idea, compromises on the quality of the biryani, Seenu refuses to go along with it. Chacha’s death further changes the course of their lives, eventually leading them towards a new beginning. The film’s biggest strength is how grounded it feels. The basti setting, everyday conversations and easy camaraderie between the characters give it an unpolished, lived-in quality. The comedy works best when it emerges naturally from the way people speak and behave. The performances also grow stronger as the film progresses, with Hari Munnangi, Manoj Aavula and Sasidhar Kocharlakota bringing an appealing naturalism to the three friends. Vedha Jalandharr and Reddy Kommidi are also convincing in their respective roles. Director Ramana Reddy Soma makes a sincere effort in bringing this world and its characters to life. However, at 2 hours and 20 minutes, the film takes too long to get to its emotional core. Considerable time is spent establishing the setting and the characters, when the screenplay could have delved deeper into their individual lives and motivations. Several portions feel stretched, making the narrative slower than necessary.Still, Ameer Log has a warm heart and a sincere message about friendship, hard work and staying true to one’s roots. It may not always hold attention, but its simplicity and groundedness make it an amiable watch.
