N.D. (KFYR) – A Mandan writer and filmmaker is working to make his new book into a film
Brock Holbert has worked on many North Dakota films including “Hazel’s Heart” and “Medora: Empress of the Badlands.”
After talking about his upcoming book “The Sum of Our Choices” with actors on the set of Medora, they got excited about the idea of making it into a short film.
Holbert said the short film serves as a book trailer, a proof of concept and an example that the spirit of North Dakota is getting behind film.
“When I moved back here, I thought I would be just writing. And then a mutual friend of mine and Dan Bielinski introduced us, and I started making movies with Daniel and helping him where I could. And it’s been a great ride,” said Holbert.
The entire film was shot in the Bismarck-Mandan area with Baylor film students. Local film production companies D&N Studios, Matrix Pictures and Holbert’s company: Rented Mule Media, helped make the filming possible.
