Yash’s much-awaited Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups has finally arrived in theatres, and early reactions on X are pouring in. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action drama had generated massive expectations ahead of its release. However, the first wave of social media reviews appears largely negative, with several reviewers criticising the <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/08/26/new-hit-film-takes-realism-to-a-new-level/” title=”New hit film takes realism to a new level”>film’s writing, editing and emotional connect. At the same time, Yash’s screen presence, visuals and production scale have received some appreciation.
BINGED gave Toxic a rating of 1.5/5 and described the experience as “Three Hours of Toxic Torture!”
#Toxic Review: Three Hours of Toxic Torture!
BINGED RATING: 1.5/5 By the time #TOXIC ends, if you manage to sit through the entire three-hour runtime, you will not only feel bad for #Yash but also question why you gave this film three hours of your life. It also makes you… — BINGED (@Binged_) August 26, 2026
The review read, “By the time #TOXIC ends, if you manage to sit through the entire three-hour runtime, you will not only feel bad for #Yash but also question why you gave this film three hours of your life.”
It further questioned the pre-release hype created by the team, writing, “It also makes you think about all those hyped pre-release speeches from Yash, director Geetu Mohandas and the entire team.”

Toxic Twitter Review: Writing and editing face criticism
Venky Reviews also rated the film 1.5/5, calling it “A Fairy Tale That Turns Into a Complete Nightmare for Everyone!”
In the recent past, we’ve seen so many talented filmmakers tell stories around toxic, problematic protagonists…and audiences have happily turned up for them. After watching #Toxic, I genuinely felt the director had a much bigger ambition: Make a film so… — Thyview (@Thyview) August 26, 2026
The account praised some technical aspects but was highly critical of the storytelling. “A technically sound film buried under chaotic writing and exhausting execution. There are barely any proper character introductions, the narrative has no clear flow, and the screenplay gets confusing enough that you’re often left wondering what’s even happening,” the review read.
Yash, however, received praise. The reviewer added, “Yash’s screen presence and a few scenes along with a better executed climax are the very few positives.”
Thyview delivered an equally harsh verdict and called the film “A colossal mess.”
Taking a sarcastic swipe at its treatment of the central character, the review said, “After watching #Toxic, I genuinely felt the director had a much bigger ambition: Make a film so repulsive that the next time audiences see even a trailer featuring a toxic protagonist, problematic man or anti-hero… they think twice before entering the theatre.”
First half of #TOXIC was straight up torture. Feels like watching a 90-minute trailer editing is completely off, zero emotional connection, and scene after scene just drags on. My friends literally walked out. Pure pain. pic.twitter.com/8fIRq7o0Km — RANJITH.RNS (@RnsRns88518967) August 26, 2026
‘First half was straight up torture’
Another X user, Ranjith RNS, criticised the film’s first half, writing, “First half of #TOXIC was straight up torture. Feels like watching a 90-minute trailer editing is completely off, zero emotional connection, and scene after scene just drags on.”
#Toxic A Decent Watch With Some Highs & Lows!
The film has some genuinely impressive visuals and a strong production scale, with Yash carrying several moments effortlessly. The world and presentation are ambitious, and a few action sequences land well on the big screen. But the… — Jashwanth Reddy (@Dir_jashwanth) August 26, 2026
The user added, “My friends literally walked out. Pure pain.”
Christopher Kanagaraj also highlighted Yash and the visuals as positives but criticised several other aspects. His post read, “Stylish Yash, Circus Stunt, Rich Visuals r only positives in this 3Hrs lengthy Soulless Violent Action Drama.”
He further criticised the characterisation, dialogues and emotional depth before calling the film a “Mega Boring Film.”
Not every reaction was completely dismissive, though.
Jashwanth Reddy gave Toxic 2.5/5 and described it as “A Decent Watch With Some Highs & Lows!”
#Toxic – Stylish Yash, Circus Stunt, Rich Visuals r only positives in this 3Hrs lengthy Soulless Violent Action Drama. Improper Character Sketch, Forced adult scenes, Random Seq, Poor Dialogues & No Emotional Connect-Nothing works. Dir Geethu delivers a Mega Boring Film. WORST! — Christopher Kanagaraj (@Chrissuccess) August 26, 2026
He wrote, “The film has some genuinely impressive visuals and a strong production scale, with Yash carrying several moments effortlessly.”
#Toxic – First Half Review Heavy KGF hangover with a clumsy, exhausting screenplay. Beyond the technical polish, the first half is completely all over the place. The action feels completely artificial due to excessive moco-cam usage, and the BGM is a massive letdown. Aside from…

However, he also noted that “the writing doesn’t always hold the film together” and that some portions drag. Summing up his opinion, he called it “a mixed experience with enough positives to make it a one-time watch.”
The early X reactions therefore appear divided, though criticism currently outweighs praise. While Yash’s presence, ambitious scale and visuals have found appreciation, writing, editing, pacing and lack of emotional connection are emerging as the most common complaint
