Amid the Mate 90 series launch preparations, Huawei Pura 100 has started garnering attention for its camera upgrades, and the latest information talks about a special external lens coming with this flagship next year. Here are the details.
Weibo tipster @SmartPikachu reported that the Huawei Pura 100 series will debut next year with an upgraded 200MP camera sensor and an external lens.
Besides the 2027 Pura models, the Mate 90 series is also in rumors to use a teleconverter (external lens) this time. It might be exclusive to the very first Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition smartphone. Check details HERE.
External lenses or teleconverters are physical optical attachments. One can clip or screw them onto their smartphone’s camera bump. These accessories expand fields of view, magnify close-ups, and provide optical zoom without relying on digital crops.
Teleconverters are of many types: Wide-angle, macro, telephoto, and more. Honor is also introducing two different teleconverters for the Magic 9 series. And Huawei probably won’t want to lag in this innovation race.

Pura 90 Pro Max is the first Huawei smartphone to feature a 200MP sensor, and the 2027 camera flagship will continue this legacy with significant shifts.
In addition to the camera details, the tipster mentioned that Huawei will use new forms of double-layer OLED technology for the Pura 100 series. The company is testing prominent screen upgrades and a new-gen tandem OLED could be part of them.
Huawei’s next-gen camera flagship is expected to not only introduce major imaging technologies this time but also notable changes in terms of design, viewing experience, and unlocking method (with a three-punch-hole layout).
There is a lot of time in the Huawei Pura 100 series launch. Till then, we will keep hitting more such details.
