SEMILLERU LAB OPENS ITS 2026 CALL FOR DEVELOPMENT AND POST-PRODUCTION PROJECTS

SEMILLERU Lab has opened the call for its 2026 edition, aimed at film projects in the development and post-production stages. Applications are free of charge and will remain open from September 30 to October 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CET.
This year’s edition of the lab will take place in person in Gijón/Xixón from November 16 to 19, coinciding with the professional sessions of FICXPro, the industry programme of the Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival, which will run until November 20.
SEMILLERU is a space devoted to nurturing, mentoring and developing film projects. Its purpose is to create a fertile environment for filmmaking that respects the individual pace and needs of each project, while helping them enter the contemporary film landscape in a sustainable way that preserves their artistic uniqueness.
Within this framework, SEMILLERU Lab is a film laboratory focused on supporting the creation, development and dissemination of projects, with particular attention to strong auteur-driven proposals in keeping with the programming and philosophy of the Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival (FICX). The programme seeks to foster new perspectives, languages and ways of understanding and making cinema.
Organised by Divertia Gijón S.A., SEMILLERU Lab is co-produced by the Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival (FICX) and Asturias Paraíso Natural Film Commission. The programme is also funded by the European Union through the Just Transition Fund (JTF) 2021–2027 and the Government of the Principality of Asturias, with sponsorship from Curt Creixent.
SEMILLERU Lab Development
The Development category is open to short and feature-length film projects. Applicants must be residents of Spain, have directed no more than two feature-length films of 45 minutes or longer, be fluent in spoken and written English, and must not have been selected for the 2025 edition of SEMILLERU Lab.
There is no application fee. Applicants must complete the corresponding online form and submit the required documentation in PDF format, either as an attachment or
The project dossier may be submitted in Spanish, English, Asturian or Eonavian and must not exceed eight pages, excluding the front and back covers. It must include a synopsis, visual and formal approach, statement of intent, biofilmography of the director, screenwriter and/or producer, production company CV where applicable, technical and artistic credits, current status and needs of the project, timeline, budget and financing plan, project images and/or visual references, and links to previous work where applicable. Applicants must also submit the screenplay, if applicable, and a valid DNI, NIE or passport.
Projects will be eligible for the following awards:
- SEMILLERU Lab Development Award, carrying a gross prize of €4,000 for one of the selected projects.
- Impulso ECAM Award, consisting of personalised mentoring tailored to the winning project’s specific needs and provided by an industry professional affiliated with the School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid (ECAM).

SEMILLERU Lab Post-Production
The Post-Production category is also open to short and feature-length film projects. Applicants must be residents of Spain, have directed no more than two feature-length films, be fluent in spoken and written English and must not have been selected for SEMILLERU Lab 2025.
Applications are free of charge and will remain open until October 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CET. Applicants must complete the corresponding online form and send the required documentation to semilleru@divertiagijon.es.
The project dossier, limited to eight pages excluding the front and back covers, may be submitted in Spanish, English, Asturian or Eonatatement of intent, biofilmographies, production company CV, technical and artistic credits, current status and needs of the project, timeline, budget and financing plan, and links to previous work
Applicants must also provide a viewing link to the work-in-progress or footage shot to date, with a maximum duration of 50 minutes. If subsequently selected, the cut submitted at a later stage must have a maximum duration of 40 minutes. A valid DNI, NIE or passport must also be provided.
Participating projects will be eligible for:
- SEMILLERU Lab Post-Production Award, carrying a gross prize of €4,000 for one of the selected projects.
- Subtitulam Award, consisting of translation into English, French or Italian —always based on a Spanish original or Spanish translation—, subtitling and the creation of a DCP with the corresponding subtitles.
- WELAW Award, consisting of 10 hours of free legal advice for one of the participating projects.

With this new edition, SEMILLERU Lab continues to strengthen its role as a space for mentoring, creation and exchange for film projects in development, generating new opportunities for their teams and contributing to the growth of the audiovisual sector from Asturias.
