The answer to filling the Sundance Film Festival void in Park City?

A new film festival may be the answer to the ‘Sundance Film Festival’ that took its final bow in Park City this year. Katherine Wang is the executive director of Park City Film and came to GTU to talk about the inaugural Park City Film Festival this fall. A new film festival is coming into focus in Park City

Less than a year after Utah’s famous mountain town hosted its 45th and final Sundance Film Festival, a group that has played a decades-long role in shaping the community’s cinematic
scene is stepping in to ensure that independent cinema will endure in Park City.

When Park City Film rolls out the inaugural Park City Film Festival this fall, it’ll be in the spirit of how Robert Redford’s biggest legacy was conceived: with a focus on independent
    film and emerging creative voices.

Over the course of three consecutive days starting Oct. 23, the new event will feature eight highly curated films to include four documentaries, three narrative features and one short film block along with several filmmaker gatherings, panel discussions and post-screening Q&As.
The festival’s film lineup and panel schedule was announced on the show that tickets are now available.

The first Park City Film Festival is intentionally designed as a boutique event, allowing the organization to build toward a larger long-term vision.

“Park City Film was born out of this community’s love for independent film,” said Park City Film’s executive director, Katharine Wang. “We helped create a new venue for the Sundance
Film Festival back in 1995, and since then have offered a carefully curated selection of films each week that might not otherwise be available in a community of our size.

“To be able to build on the foundation we’ve established over the last 30-plus years — and in such a significant way — is truly an honor for us. We’re thrilled to have this opportunity.”
Park City Film also recognizes the cultural and economic impact a successful film festival can have on an entire community.

“By bringing filmmakers and audiences back to Park City, we’re helping support local businesses while celebrating the creative spirit that has long defined this community,” Wang said. “Whether your business is on Main Street or in Kimball Junction, a thriving film festival creates opportunities that benefit everyone.”
