Tut Nyuot Stars in Excellent Prison Drama ‘Animol’ Official UK Trailer
“Can anyone tell me what shame feels like?” Sky TV has revealed an official UK trailer for acclaimed prison drama titled Animol, an indie film that’s the feature directional debut of actor Ashley Walters. It premiered at Berlinale earlier this year and has been playing at festivals around the world the rest of the year. Behind the walls of a juvenile detention center, young inmates navigate friendship, identity, and personal growth while confronting harsh realities following their own paths to redemption. Troy is sent into the brutal world of British prisons, but his bond with a fellow inmate offers some solace. Similar to the film Great Freedom, and also similar to the other UK prison film Wasteman last year. This introduces rising talents, Tut Nyuot (in The Long Walk) and Vladyslav Baliuk as two teenagers embroiled in the prison’s harsh environment. Stephen Graham also co-stars as the Welfare Officer tasked with supporting the young offenders during their incarceration and Sharon Duncan-Brewster plays Troy’s mother, too. I’ve just seen this one only a few months ago and it’s good, really good, with an exceptional performance by Tut Nyuot. Get a look below.
Here’s the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Ashley Walters’ film Animol, from Sky TV’s YouTube:
“A story of survival, connection and belonging.” Behind the walls of a juvenile detention centre, Troy (Tut Nyuot) is thrust into a brutal world of gangs, loyalty, and violence. From the moment he arrives, he is tested. Paired with a volatile cellmate, Troy is forced to deal with daily threats and power struggles. An unspoken bond with a fellow inmate offers some solace in the oppressive environment, but their growing connection becomes a dangerous vulnerability.Animol is directed by British actor / filmmaker Ashley Walters, making his feature directorial debut after some episodes of “Ackley Bridge” and “A Thousand Blows” previously. The screenplay is written by Nick Love (of The Football Factory, A Town Called Malice). Produced by Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor and Tom Hawkins. Made by Film4 in collaboration with Sky and the BFI. This initially premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and also played at KVIFF. Sky TV debuts Walters’ Animol film in UK cinemas starting October 30th, 2026 this fall.
